I am listening to Army Reserve right now and can't get enough of it. I love the ending solo(especially live with Mike's chorusy effect). Anyway, I was wondering what everyone's top three favs off PJ's new album was guitar sounding wise. I also like Big Wave just because of Mike using the ebow during the bridge. Life Wasted with Mike's solo towards the end is my final pick. What are yours?
*Side note for those who care-I love the Jeff Ament songs-Jeremy, Why Go, Army Reserve, Sleight of Hand, ect. He has a vertain style of writing, anyone notice?*

Army Reserve
Army Reserve was and remains one of my favorites... The layered guitars in the opening just immediatly sweeps you away in the melody.. Mike plays to the song nicely also. Chorus/delay was definetly the way to go.
Unemployable. Nothing unique guitar-tech wise, but beautiful. Tones are perfect and chord choice is spot on. Plus it's got that infectious groove..
Big Wave - I probably wouldn't have said this until you reminded me of the Ebow... just the tops!

Oh my, they dropped the leash.
Morgan Freeman/Clint Eastwood 08' for President!
"Make our day"
Unemployable and life wasted are the other favorites.
7/9/06 LA 1
7/10/06 LA 2
10/21/06 Bridge 1
Marker In The Sand (love the end bit here as well)
Inside Job (love it all)
1. Marker In The Sand
2. Life Wasted
3. Unemployable
But overall my top 3 are
1. Severed Hand
2. Inside Job
3. Comatose
no 2 and 3 right now is Come Back and InsideJob. but Army reserve was definitely an early fave and Gone has steadily gained in # of listens.
and really Marker in the sand would always be #2, but it sorta wasn't recorded at all right IMO. Verse Vocals sound like Ed was having an off day in the studio, don't know if maybe the notes are pushing his range, or if he was trying to hard to push his voice into that grit. Also i always wish the bridge rocked just a little harder. But still an outstanding chorus, great lyrics top to bottom, and a great outro. If it had been overproduced vocally like, lets say GTF, it would be one of mt top 10 PJ tracks for sure. It's pretty close anyway.
cheers
