DS-1 Ideas

A while ago, I posted about my DS-1 and how it was crapping out on me. Well, I can't find my warrenty papers so, my dad surprised me with a new one. (Fixing the pedal would be 55 bucks as opposed to a new one at 40.) ANYWAY, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to mod my old DS-1. Keep in mind, please, that this would be my first serious mod so anything too complicated is out of my league. I am open to all ideas. Thanks a lot!

Yeah, I saw that. I just wanted to do some of my own mods, like on my own. I don't have any money to spend to actually send mine into Keeley

    I had a DS-2 awhile ago, but sold it. I have a Keeley modded BD-2 and TS-9.

sand blast the case, do a custom paint job in it......

Look through the inner workings....make sure there are no loose wires or bad solders....

    and get something like this.....

I'm really crappy at describing the sounds I get from them. I can only say I love the sound I get from them!

i tried his dynacomp kit and it sounded very good. unfortunately, i did a hack job of it and one of the pots went bad (solder leg connection within the volume became unstable) so i need to fix that. sounded really good though. too bad i ruined the pedal.
  • I was reminded again today during a recording session at a teachers studio....the DS-1 is good, and bad. Its good for a quick pick me up, but for quality studio gain....it needs to be modded, or replaced by a higher end unit.

it's really not bad as a live on stage pedal though, most people simply dime the gain and have trouble. The SD1 is probably the best Boss gain pedal ever, and the DS-1 is 1A, they just get so much better with the mods and they play so nicely toegther. It's like night and day though with a mod so much cleaner and more articulate.
