Tone settings...

So I've been messing with my settings a lot lately trying to find different ways to "hone my tone". I currently turn the volume and tone up all the way on my Hamer guitar using the neck pickup. Run it through my wah, chorus, delay & TS9--tone at about noon; drive and level about 2 o'clock on the TS9. Then dial back the tone and volume on my amp. I have a vintage tube amp, so all I have is volume and tone to work with. It's o.k., but still needs tweaking.

What do you use? Maybe dial back the volume/tone on the guitar and/or pedal and cranking them on the amp? Combination of both? Just wondering what other players have found...

depends on the amp and guitar. i found that turning down my pedals and pre-amp gain while cranking the master on the amp gives me the best tone. i play a lp jr. with p-90 pups, and adjusting the pickup height did wonders for me.

i know for a fact when Clapton recorded with Cream, he would turn both his tone knobs all the way down to get that "womantone"
they call them fingers, but i never see them fing. oh, there they go
