Hey people! I know i am very late the party here, but would love some help/thoughts/guidance. Through the help of a great person (brian austin green (wink)), i have obtained u2/pj hawaii and will be getting framed for my may bday. $ will be no object. I will be kept out of the loop until i open her up. So i want my wife and family to not screw it up!! Anyone have any pics/ideas as to what we can do?? Michaels did a good job on soto montreal, so im ok using them. Also from mid-state ny if that helps. Thanks for your time. Feel free to pm if you wanna do it that way. I use black on them all - usually like to use double matte with different colors - boring but they are all in the same room, for the sake of consistency OCD
I do the same thing, Buck. Same frame & black top mat on all, then an accent color bottom mat to match the poster.

I've done the exact same thing on all of mine. I've gotten 8 framed so far, and getting ready to send a 9th to the framer. I like the consistent look across all the frames.
I'm going to Hobby Lobby this week and asking them about framing my Greenville poster. I'm hoping they dont break the bank on me. I know Michaels can get a little pricey.

Hobby Lobby is very reasonable. Especially if you use one of their standard sized frames like 18 x 24. They always have a 40% off coupon as well. If you look back a few pages on this thread, I framed the EV Chicago poster for only $75 and it looks great.

What acid free paper do you guys store the posters in prior to framing?? Need some recommendations. The flipper I bought from didn't roll in paper AND rolled the poster backwards I was two away before posters sold out

Had Pitt 13' and Cincy 14' up for a while. Just got back the Columbia today, that's why it's still in the wrap and not on the wall. Kept them simple with a little color on the inside edge of the mats. Greenville, Raleigh and EV Albuquerque, NM coming up soon!

Can someone help a brother out? I'm new to the poster game and have a few questions:
Is it okay to keep the poster rolled in the tube for a while? Or, is it best to take it out and flatten it before I take it to be framed?
I'm no expert but I always take them out of the tubes right away. I let them rest a little and then place in a flat file I made with a tri-fold poster display type heavy duty cardboard with acid free paper between each one.

Got this at Michaels for $48CDN plus tax. There having 40% off select frames until the 19th I believe. Its not archival in any way. I suggest conservation glass and archival matting and backing but that will run you upwards of $250CDN. Alot of options out there, just thought i would share mine for the curious PJ fans

Anyone have any ideas on the Quebec poster yet? I have never framed a poster before and would like some ideas.
I always do my framing at a shop in Vancouver called Opus. It's great because they allow you to do everything yourself (with some loose oversight from Emily Carr art students that work there) and as such, you save about half price in materials.
The best part about doing it in person is that you can take the matting samples and place them beside the image. That allows you to see how the final product will look. I usually do a double mat, and depending on the size of the print, often aim for about 2.5 inches on the top mat, and about 1/4 inch on the lower mat.
The main thing to consider (in my opinion) for mat colours is to ask yourself "what colours are going to make the image POP". For example, you want to use colours from the image, but not so much that the matting dominates. I usually try for more or a dark or muted colour for the top mat, with a brighter colour for the lower mat (as it only shows about 1/4 inch) as that tends to brighten it up. For example when I matted the Ames PJ20 poster my top mat was black, and the lower mat was orange. For the PJ 2014 Oslo Rhys Cooper I used a charcoal grey (the same colour of the Pearl Jam writing that is shaped like a raven ) with the lower mat that ice blue colour of the beard.
However, that doesn't always work, and sometimes I've used bright colours for the top mat which have turned out really well. For example, the 2011 Toronto Munk One Moose Purple Variant, where I used the violet colour of the background as the top mat, with the cream colour as the bottom mat. Or the PJ20 Klausen where I used the electric blue as the top mat and the orange colour of the word "Jam" as the bottom mat.
This poster is kind of unique as it has a built in green border. Therefore, if you wanted to save $, you could probably get away with a single mat, as the green boarder kind of has the same effect of a second mat anyways. You could use either a top mat that is the same as the background for a grey/green boarder effect, or you could use the green as the top mat which would create a green/grey/green effect.
I will be framing my Quebec one sometime in the coming month or so. Without playing with the mats, its hard to say.
