Word of Mouth marketing is the best and cheapest tool out there to use. Plus, they're a tribute band NOT a real band...you think a tribute band will strike a deal with record label?weenie wrote:This is called "word of mouth marketing" and is a public relations tool. And if you check out their website, they're actually promoting Avocado so Pearl Jam is getting a free promotion from that tribute band. PJ do it with smaller name artists, see Liam Finn, Neil Finn, Ben Harper(now he's pretty big for an indie guy), Sleatter-Kinney...others.
And I see nothing wrong with getting your name out there. It's not like their spamming us with useless junk.
EDIT: never mind the above comment. i looked at his last 16 posts and they were all about this tribute band. it's now SPAMMING in my opinion.
Soooo i think the OP should stop. PJ- 04/29/2003.06/24,25,27,28,30/2008.10/27,28,30,31/2009

considering the individual behind these constant threads is the SINGER of the tribute band, i'm sure he'd appreciate this running theme from previous likeminded replies,...To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

No xtreme, it was to the solicitor (and I don't mean a British lawyer) pushing his tribute band - I was telling him to "go away".xtremehardy388 wrote:Is that to me? I have NO idea why I was quoted...
Everything this guy posts is about his tribute band - he doesn't contribute to the Forum except to say, check this band out.
I'd be better if he said "check my band out" . . . at least own it.♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫

I don't see what the big deal is. It's not like we are over run with posts in here anyway. He/she has only posted 27 posts in nearly 2 years. If it was a weekly or daily thing and an overload of advertising, then that would be annoying and completely something else. It's no different to putting up your myspace link in your profile or signature to promote your band and there are people on this message board who do that all the time.
If the OP reads this, then you would be better off posting in 'the porch' next time because more people will see it.0 -

Actually, I have no problem with the promotion, but "hey, my tribute band is playing" would be more up-front and honest and probably get a better reception. Let's face it, lots of us would probably love to be in a tribute band, and some dialogue on that would be pretty interesting. I know I would. I'm a born Stone, hang in the back, hold down a rhythm and let someone else do the flashy stuff.
So, allpj, how do you cast a Mike ? '59 Strat essential ? Substance issues optional ? Political awareness needed ?Music is not a competetion.0 -

17 of his 19-posts are just to promote his band - the other 2 are pro-American bashing.
Funny since he's in a Pearl Jam tribute band - Last time I checked Pearl Jam were all Americans.

Well, i could challenge you to a thumb war over our difference of opinion because i rule at them. But, i'll have to concede i can see where you are coming from
I didn't actually check the contents of his posts, it was more just looking to see how many there was over 2 years.0 -
It's funny you didn't mention either of the drummers...which leads me to believe the old newspaper headling "Band and drummer die in car accident"...(Yes that's a real article, no I hope it NEVER EVER happens and no, it was never said about Pearl Jam)...ianvomsaal wrote:The issue is that this guy doesn't contribute to the forum except to promote his band.

I'm sure Matt was born in the US too.
-Matt Cameron was born in San Diego, California;
-Dave Krusen in Tacoma, Washington;
-Matt Chamberlain in San Pedro, California;
-Dave Abbruzzese in Stamford, Connecticut;
-Jack Irons in Los Angeles, California.
And if we're getting picky, even their B3 organist: Boom (Kenneth) Gaspar was born in Waimānalo, Hawaii.♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫

Born down in a dead mans town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog thats been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up
Born in the U.S.A., I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A., born in the U.SA.
Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man
Born in the U.S.A....
Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man said son if it was up to me
Went down to see my V.A. man
He said son, dont you understand
I had a brother at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
Theyre still there, hes all gone
He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now
Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
Im ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run aint got nowhere to go
Born in the U.S.A., I was born in the U.S.A
Born in the U.S.A, Im a long gone daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A, born in the U.S.A
Born in the U.S.A, Im a cool rocking daddy in the U.S.A."I'll tell you what: If all I had was Pearl Jam, and I didn't have another band in the world, I would not be worried. Because in there is the essence of making great music. You don't have to use it all at once, but it's there." - Neil Young0
