ive been looking at les pauls, and ivenarrowed my selection down to 2 choices: Gibson Custom Historic 58 LP Plain Top, and a gibson lp standard 60's neck. i would get the 58 in tobacco burst, and am deciding on either the goldtop or desert burst for the standard. i need advice on what color is better for the standard, and which guitar is a better choice plase help!

I know what you're going thru.

The R8 is a better guitar, not to put the Standard down at all, I have a Standard with a 60s neck profile. Pro machine all around that sounds great.

The Burstbucker Pro Pups on the Standard are a hair hotter the BB1 and 2s in the Reissue.

The reissue, is made in the Custom shop, better materials? Better luthiers? All the parts, Pup rings, switch tip, pickgaurd, are made to look like those that existed in 57-60. Maybe the best feature is the long neck tennon. It provides, as some would say, a better joint than the rocker used in the Standard. Provides a more vinatge woodier tone? You have to decide if these things are worth it to you. The best way is to play em both. If you can't, I'd say you would have better luck with the R8 sight unseen.

    Just my 2 cents.
