I got into Pearl Jam around the time Yield came out, so I bought the first 5 CDs at a used music store. Don't really remember buying any particular album except Avocado...walked into Target the day it came out, hadn't seen the cover art yet so I wasn't sure what to look for...finally saw an avocado with blue background, stared at it for like 5 minutes going "WTF...an avocado?"
Took it home and listened to it on the computer...I still remember the first time I heard Parachutes...I absolutely stopped everything I was doing and just stared out the window in awe (it was a beautiful day in May, by the way).Chicago 2000 : Chicago 2003 : Chicago 2006 : Summerfest 2006 : Lollapalooza 2007 : Chicago 2009 : Noblesville (Indy) 2010 : PJ20 (East Troy) 2011 : Wrigley Field 2013 : Milwaukee (Yield) 2014 : Wrigley Field 20160 -

You really are missing out. It was like Christmas. Very very exciting getting it to your car and listening for the first time. I remember a K-Mart near me used to put the Tuesday releases out late Monday night so I would stalk their electronics department at like 9:15 on Monday nights.0 -
I remember when I bought Ten (on cassette).... I was 12 and had to sneak to the store to buy it b\c my mom thought all 'rock' music was of the devil..haha. I had to hide the damn thing from her (along with the rest of my music collection) for 4 years. I listened to Ten evey night with my headphones after she went to bed. For me it was like opening my eyes in a whole other world, I was totally immersed in the experience.0

I remember when Ten came out i was deep into Hip-Hop back then but still had love for most music forms (I was born and raised on Led Zeppelin) so i had this tape (ten) that said "not for sale" & "for sony execs only" or something like that...but i played the shit out of it and loved it but didn't stay up to date with the band and several albums later i was in a record store and i came to the PJ section and saw that they had 3 more albums out that i didn't own!! (i had heard some of the songs on the radio but i wasn't really familiar with most of them)
so i take home VS,no code & Vitalogy all at once!! well that was the beginning of my love affairand i never missed a release day after that!!
I just can't believe my stupid ass didn't go to a live concert till 2004!! All the fucking awesome shows i missed!! well live and learn.I will tell you one thing, i haven't missed them once since then and this summer was the first time i went out of state for a few shows (MSG!!..I'm from Boston) and if we don't go into a depression before the next tour i plan on going to even more shows!!
props to the creator of this thread for his love of Binaural..you have great taste in music(Binaural is fucking awesome and it gets shit on by a lot of people who claim to be fans.)

So 20 shows, 100+ posters, countless bootlegs and an undying love for the band since 1992 mean nothing since I dislike Binaural? I'm just claiming to be a fan? Nah.I know good music when I hear it. I don't hear very much of it on there.

Thanks! You know, I've been seeing a lot more Binaural love around here lately... Maybe it's starting to catch on how amazing the album is!"You could have licked the lips of God, but you chose the pavement..." ~ These Arms Are Snakes0 -

My auntie (RIP) bought it for me while i was at work, knew she had so i never peedled so fast to get home. He proceeded to tell me that I could come, but i knew it was out of guilt. So i passed and was going to go to the movies instead by myself. I got to the street where I could either take the right to the movies or take the other right to the mall. I chose the mall. I am well known for buying cds of bands I don't know. I like the excitement of not knowing what they are going to be like. Well, I bought Rearviewmirror. That cd changed my life forever. Everything that I had been going through in my life (won't get into it for the sake of time) was answered right there. I'm not a religious person, but I found my religion that day. I will say one thing. When my mom left out of the blue one day and moved to North Carolina, I listened to Rearviewmirror for a week straight on repeat so that I would remember why I was so upset and would not forget why. Everytime I hear that song now I am remembered about what it is like to try to run from something that is so prevalent in your life. I would not trade that emotion for anything. I still listen to it daily, and when I scrounge up enough money to get a tattoo I plan on getting a Rearviewmirror with the stickman inside it to signify how i felt during that time and who it was who helped me keep my head up high.
This is the epitomy of the power of music...and especially the power of Pearl Jam!
When a song/album hits you like a ton of bricks...and changes your life forever!
I bought every album... starting with Vs... at a midnight release at the same Tower Records in Campbell CA.
Self titled will be the last one because Tower Records has since become a Petco.
I will miss my ritual."Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"0 -

You know... I've never waited at midnight for a cd... only dvds... i guess it has a lot to do with this modern era of music and such... really is a sad thing."You could have licked the lips of God, but you chose the pavement..." ~ These Arms Are Snakes0 -

Yeah...I was always behind the times when it came to getting music "leaks" early on the internet.
I loved PJ releases and going at midnight and waiting in a line (every release had a line around the building) and talking music with other people.
This last album though...I did listen to the AOL free listen a few days before the Avocado release.
It was kind of sad to not get the first listen in my truck. Now I get nothing."Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"0
