The "Red Mosquito" tone

I have no idea how he (Mike? Stone?) gets that tone in the intro and in between the verses... but it's awesome.

Of course, it's just a novelty tone, but I still want it. Any tips?

    the fuzztone solos?

    some sort of germanium fuzz. whether it's a straight ahead fuzzface or not i don't know. but i like it.

    they are real trashy amps too, maybe not in quality,but just that style. Some old beat up marshalls or something turned up really loud and close-mic'd to shit.

    I love the intro and have always wanted to know how they got that sound effect. Is it a fuzz pedal?

    it's true too!

    I read (on here I think.. awhile ago) that Mike asked Ed if he could keep it and Ed said no for some reason. and then something about the lighter resurfacing and Ed eventually gave it to him.

    *shrugs*

    neat little bit of information though, ain't it? :)
