When boredom meets a guitar I never use anymore...

They create this. It's my first electric guitar, an Epiphone Special II. My higher-end Epiphone that I have all but rendered this one obsolete to me, so I haven't even picked it up in at least a few months. So I was bored, and decided that I might as well play around with it a little bit and maybe I'll end up even liking it. So I sanded the finish off of the neck with rough sandpaper (a very tiring process, I might add) and then made it even smoother using fine sandpaper. It felt amazing... I personally love guitars that don't have a glossy lacquer on the neck. Then I decided what the hell, I might as well give it a new paintjob as well... the "vintage sunburst" looked absolutely terrible, and even my PJ sticker and hand-drawn doodles with a silver sharpie didn't help. That required sanding the gloss off the body (only the gloss though, not down to the bare wood, thank God), using a hefty dose of masking tape to cover the pups and a few other things, and giving it a nice coat of burgundy spray paint. So I ended up with this:

So it looks a lot cooler, but it still sounds like crap. Oh well. Maybe eventually I'll slap some new pups in there and make it into something pretty cool. I'm thinking of maybe wrapping some electrical tape over it a few times, to give it a kind of Van Halen pattern. I don't know. It's still a hell of a lot of fun to play around with useless guitars though, even if it doesn't really make you play it more.
Oh yeah, and I think I broke the tone control by accidentally twisting the knob too far. Oops. At least it has a really nice neck.

Dude, I have a very similar Epiphone "Special" SG model which I hardly play now since I got a half decent Fender acoustic...... and after looking at those photos, I think I'll have to send it to you for a refurb!!! Tape and all...
