question about Jimi Hendrix

I know that SRV played his guitar down a half step, was this true for Hendrix? particularly for voodoo child. thanks.

    He did after his first record.

  • Sometimes for concerts, he'd tune down half a step; other times a whole step; and even towards the end of his career, he'd still use regular EADGBE. Consequently, there are live recordings of Voodoo Child circulating, in all three tunings.

    There's an example worth noting, of Jimi playing Red House on 2 November 1968 in Minneapolis, with his guitar tuned down a whole step to A, rather than the usual B. The effect is quite striking, when you hear his approach to bending.
