    B flat is many things.

A note, a key, a barre chord, a chord, power chord sure.

I always liked the tension the Bb gives off in Faithfull and Hail, Hail.

woo baby here is an opportunity for me to use those 6 years i spent obtaining multiple degrees in music lol.

a power chord is not a tonic triad. a power chord is made up of 2 roots and a 5th, omitting the 3rd which gives the chord neither a major or minor quality. therefore a power chord is made up of 2 roots and a 5th. the spelling of a Bb power chord would be Bb F Bb. a triad must have 3 different notes, those being the root, 3rd, and 5th. if you want a a Bb Major you need to add in the 3rd which would be D and the spelling of the chord would be Bb D F. if you want Bb minor the 3rd would be Db making the chord spelling Bb Db F. the only difference in a major and minor chord such as A major to A minor is the lowering of the 3rd a half step.

and a triad(or any other chord) can only be considered "tonic" if the chord is the ONE(I) chord in the key. so take a song like nothing as it seems where the chord progression is B(I) - Bb minor(vii). Bb in this case is actually considered a#(although a# is enharmonic to Bb). but at any rate, the ONE(I) chord here is the B minor and therefore that is the tonic chord and no other chord in the song will be a tonic chord until there is a point of modulation and we have a new key.

ok glad a BA in music business & technolgy and an AS is music general paid off for somthing lol...

by the way i wasn't taking a shot at anyone i was just having fun =)

lol bach is the standard. the reason why is because bach is the daddy of music theory. he didn't know that he was and didn't even try to be. but all of classical music theory is derived from all of bach's work. i have over a 4 hour repoitoire of bach music for classical guitar that i perform often.

I 'wrote' three new 'songs' and two include the infamous Bb. It does have something.
  • it does, its dramtic but when you flatten and play an F on ya e string it gives it the biggest kick up the arse imaginable. when i was in a band and when ha d a song that opened with the Bb chord and man it was like a power bolt, still gives me goosebumps

immortality pretty much only uses em, d7, C7, and A

crazy mary, the original by victoria williams is in bm and pearl jam originally played it live in bm. they have now transposed it to am though and i believe the reason why is because the key signature for am is ABCDEFGA(no sharps and no flats, which equals all white keys on a piano, which equals a very easy way for boom to rockout a solo.) anyway that is my conspiracy theory on the am transposition for crazy mary live since 2003 lol.

I was. Very Confused. I meant Nothing Man, not Immortality. Serious brain fart.

    F-Dm-C-Dm-Bb

    Sorry for the screw up.

And yeah, I didn't even realize that they changed up Crazy Mary to Am. It's been years since I've played it along with the CD. I messed this thread all up. Thats what I get for posting so early in the morning.
