They havent as a band played Seattle proper or the northwest proper since 2003 I believe. Indeed there was the showbox and the gorge but that aint seattle folks! The Stranger was all on Ed's case for not playing seattle and then he plays 2 shows albeit 2 SECRET shows. Pretty bizaare if you ask me.

Why didnt 10 club announce the shows and make them available to anyone? Why has pearl jam refused to play the northwest (not counting chrons benefits, or gorge shows) in 3 or 4 years?

How can a band that even after they split up, they will forever be associated with the northwest, not play any legitimate shows in the northwest?

I just dont understand it.

They arent playing seattle this summer, and this ed solo 2 night secret show, wasnt announced until someone on the board said it would happen THAT DAY!

Whats up?

The band likes to do special shows in the pacific northwest which is why you have what happened at Kenyon and the previous Showbox shows. They are very special and have to be somewhat secret because not everyone can go and the venues can't handle thousands of people randomly showing up.

Also, whether you agree or not, The Gorge is considered a Seattle show. Yes it is not Seattle proper but Key Arena sucks for a concert and the PJ shows at The Gorge are awesome and legendary. In addition The Gorge can accomodate an arena sized crowd. PJ has treated the pacific northwest great by giving us the best of both worlds.

Also, I am am willing to be that PJ plays at least one night at The Gorge this summer after the east coast tour dates.

The Gorge isn't a Seattle show. Unless it is also a Spokane show. Driving 2 1/2 hours from Seattle by definition means that it isn't a Seattle show. That's like saying Vancouver is also a Seattle show.

And playing for 50 people is great.... if you were one of the 50 people. Otherwise it is just an interesting story. It certainly conjurs no fond memories for me.

The best of both worlds only makes sense if you experience both worlds. Otherwise, it is what it is. A drought. PJ needs to play Seattle.

Bands never play the The Gorge and Seattle proper. It is generally one or the other. Where do you think the majority of people are coming from when they go to The Gorge? It counts as Seattle. Plus Key Arena sucks. There are no other venues large enough to accomodate them. Paramount is too small to accomodate everyone and the WR ampitheatre is garbage.

I agree about the Gorge. I would bet that at least 90% of all the people who go to any and all Gorge shows, all come from the Puget Sound region. The Gorge is considered in and advertised to the Puget Sound market...

Even those December 2002 Key Shows were benefit shows with no 10C seating. Before that, they played the Groundworks benefit show October 2001 with no 10C seating. So the last time they played a "true" Seattle gig with the benefit of 10C seating was 2000!

My feeling is Ed in this case was tuning up his act and as a result wasn't going to be very sharp. He was basically having a live rehearsal in front of some people and probably wanted some of the crowd energy and feedback.

Because of this he probably didn't want to put out a less than perfect product to a lot of people.

ALSO if he is playing an intimate venue and announces the show there will be 1000's of pissed off people who try to get tickets and then get shut out and of the 100 person capacity less than half are for the public and most are for friends and family. Announcing that type of disappointment would not be advisable.

In this case I would guess a bit of both made for the necessity of a secret show.

I am with you, not playing a Seattle show makes no sense

The Gorge is great all but 2.5 hours away is not seattle

they must not sell out like the South

You are from IL. So what do you consider Alpine Valley. I know people in the CHI who would consider Alpine Valley a CHI show even though it is in Wisconsin. People get too caught up city names instead of overall population tracts. Plus all large venues in Seattle suck.

Plenty of bands seem to be able to play Seattle. PJ just isn't one of them. I'm betting at least half of the Vancouver crowd at Ed's show will be people from the Puget Sound. Again, I don't consider that a Seattle show. It may be where the majority are from, but it is 2 1/2 hours away in a completely different geographical region.

I'm a big fan of the Gorge. I go there 2 or 3 times a summer, every summer. I'm a member of the Cave B wine club. It is one of my favorite places in the country, but it isn't Seattle.

Absolutely. I completely agree and don't think anyone has a problem with that. It makes total sense. The only problem I have is that this is the ONLY kind of show Ed or the band play in Seattle anymore.

They should definitely keep playing the little shows. Those are very unique and special for the people who get to attend. But they should also play for their hometown crowd once in awhile, too.

Fair enough. However I guess my point is that a band is going to play either Key Arena or The Gorge. Not both (although PJ probably could since they are from Seattle). I think they would much rather play The Gorge and I think they assume their fans agree. I mean you never hear anyone say man Key Arena show was awesome, although The Seattle II show was really good I guess. Vancouver BC is a little different. While people from Seattle will go to BC, the primary audience is people from Vancouver area.

I know, I'm being nitpicky. And I agree that the acoustics in Key Arena leave something to be desired. And of course any and every time PJ plays the Gorge, I'll be there. I just feel like Seattle gets the shaft every tour. Any time I use the 10 Club to purchase tickets to a show I know it will involve travel.

I'm sure my frustration would evaporate overnight with news of a PJ show at the Gorge. :)

The Gorge is the Seattle/Puget Sound region. Puget Sound folks fill up 90% of The Gorge tickets to any Gorge show. No other region in the area has anywhere near the amount of residents who frequent The Gorge. That is just how we roll out in the wild west.

"they must not sell out like the South" doesn't even make any sense because they will always either play the Gorge in place of Seattle. It is one or the other, but never both because it is the same market.

Oh get over yourself, how many times have they played the Seattle area compared to other parts of the country and the world ? It's ridiculous, do you know how selfish you sound, you get intimate PJ and Ed shows and boo hoo you have to travel a few hours for a show. Well it's the same in a lot of places PJ tour. In the UK as an example ppl have to travel to London to see the band except in 2000 when they played 4 cities and then ppl still had to travel for hours. Be greatful for what you get, you've been spoilt over the years.
    My PJ shows:
    London 28/10/96, Las Vegas 11/7/98, London 29/5/00, Nurnburg 11/6/00, Prague 14/6/00, Salzburg 18/6/00, Verona 20/6/00, Milan 22/6/00, Zurich 23/6/00, New York 8-9/7/03, Boston 11/7/03, Reading Festival 27/8/06, Shepards Bush 11/8/09, Berlin 15/8/09, Manchester 17/8/09, London 18/8/09, Dublin 22/6/10, Belfast 23/6/10, London (HRC) 25/6/10, Alpine Valley (PJ20) 3-4/9/11, Manchester 20-21/6/12, Leeds 8/7/14, Milton Keynes 11/7/14 To be continued....

Don't be a moron. They're from Seattle. One would expect them to play Seattle more often than Boston or New York. One would expect a band from Seattle to play even less frequently in London or Syndey. Hopefully that won't be too difficult for you to follow.

I'm not gonna get into a slagging match and yes I agree in part, you would expect them to play more shows in their hometown but this is Pearl Jam, they're hardly known for being your archetypal band. My point is that I think it's selfish someone from Seattle moaning about how they don't play enough shows. And anyway they have played more shows in Seattle or WA than New York, as you'd expect!

Sorry but the gorge is a "seattle" show. It must suck that one of the most beutiful venues in the country is a whole 2 and a half hours away.

While I agree with you on Seattle proper, you said OR the northwest proper. I'm pretty sure the northwest contains Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. I'll even throw in Vancouver. The only one of those that hasn't been played since 2003 is Idaho.
