This is the first tube amp ive owned so im not sure if this is the problem or not.

When i put the amp on it makes a high pitched sound, kinda like a firework or something is the best i can describe, lol.
Then if i play too loud it pops.

Is it just the tubes that need chaged?

  • It sounds like a tube.
A high pitched squeal? That could be a preamp tube.
Otherwise it could be a whole lot of things, but usually something to do with the tubes.

    Yeah, sounds like a Tube . . .
Your V1 tube is usually the 1st to go (yes V1 is a pre-amp tube).
That tube is the 1st tube in the line, thus takes the brunt of the signal and abuse.
Replace the V1 1st and see if that helps.
If that doesn't help then just move on down the line trying the new tube in each pre-amp space.
Just make sure you that whatever tube you take out you put back in the same place.
This just helps for diagnosing what tube is bad and helps eliminate the problem tube easier.

...and where might one find such tubes? lol

Its a bitch trying to do a 'tubes' search on google.... mostly comes up with tube amps, rather than the tubes.

I live in Scotland, dont have a Guitar Center or Sam Ash, i only have one store locally and its small so they'd have to order the tubes anyway, so i might as well do it myself.

these guys are just south of you in sunny England. They are in Hertfordshire I believe so it's probably a lengthy trip but at least you can save on shipping.

Prices seem a bit high, but considering over the pond shipping... yeesh.
