Barre chord - Proper form question...

I'm practicing barre chords and have a question. When playing barre chords like E and D (in Lukin for example) where your 3rd finger acts as the barre, should you keep your 4th finger above the neck or is it ok to let it fall below the neck? Just curious what's the best way to practice. My pinky naturally wants to fall below, but I feel like it would be better to practice keeping it up on top?
Cheers!

I would keep it above, that makes it easier and quicker to switch to a minor chord

Thanks. That was kind of my assumption, but wanted to ask.
