Taylor Vs Martin

Ive been debating really hard the last month or so to buy a new Taylor. I saw one at accent music down by where I live for $ 550.00 . That is really low for a Taylor, but when I played it it sounded really crisp and new. Just wanted some opinions on the subject. I know Martin makes a good acoustic and a few others , but Ive test drove almost every one and I think Taylor has the best sound for what Im lookin for. I am willing to put down some money, but anything over $ 1000 is too much for me right now. Should I go Taylor or wait for the sales? sbb

It's like asking which chocolate is the best. Toungues are different. So are ears. If you are talking about "name clout", like Lexus Vs. Mercedes I'd say Martin wins just because of the history. But of course that has nothing to do with the sound of the instruments, and what inspires you.

ALWAYS buy the one you want, not the one other people want, or think you should want.
    Music is not a competetion.
  • If that guitar plays and sounds the way you want a guitar to play and sound, you should just get it. There are so many guitars out there, and each has their little specialties and niche features, and each will respond to different playing styles differently. If you love the sound of a Taylor, you probably aren't going to find a Martin or Gibson or Guild that sounds the same. Don't worry about the name on the headstock.

You've already done the hard part, playing a lot of different guitars and seeing if they respond to your playing. Now you know what you want.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

You can't go wrong with either.

I love the sound of both, but my next guitar is a Taylor 7-series.
