there is a very wide range of quaility within epiphone and a number of different les paul models in their line. some very good. some very not good. some very very cheap ones with bolt on necks etc.

can't really tell you more without more specifics about the guitar.

Yeah, 200 bucks is pretty good for an Epi LP as long as it isn't a Les Paul Special or Les Paul Studio. It's definitely a good idea to play it first.

Also I think there's an Epiphone called a Les Paul 100 or something that's pretty cheap too. If it's a Standard or better, then see how it sounds and plays and if you like it, buy it.

  • I have a studio and its pretty nice, very reliable (nothing has ever maufunctioned in the 3 years i've had it - ever), and it sounds great. Definetly a great buy for the money.

Yes, I agree - it really depends on the Epiphone (most Epi's are total crap).
Here's a link from Musiciansfriend on Epiphone Les Pauls (priced low to high).
    http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitar/navigation?page=1&N=100001&Ntk=All&Ntt=epiphone%2Bles%2Bpaul&Nty=1&Ns=P_Price%7C0
Take a look and see if your friends guitar is here.
This way you'll know what the typical selling price for a new one is.
You definitely don't want to pay too much for a used Epiphone - Cheers . . .

True, but some of the les paul models are pretty good for the money. If you're going to buy an epiphone make sure it's a LP.

epi makes lots of worthy guitars, not just LPs.

    examples?

not trying to be confrontational or anything, but the LPs are far and above their best guitars I think.

their semi-hollows and hollows are nice instruments. i quite like the dot and the casino.

especially when considering the cost of a gibson made 335.

    great value.

I was waiting for this thread. What type of LP is it? And didn't the guy say $150? Is he charging you $50 for the case?
