Thoughts? My local shop has a barely used (my dad just checked it out today) for $500 CDN. I've been lookin at a semi, and I figure with the money I save I can upgrade the pickups. Can I barter them down, what do you all think?

It depends on the individual guitar.

I bought a Epiphone Dot about 18 months ago. Played every guitar in town (a good 12-15) and one was head and shoulders above the others. Some were REALLY awful, others were alright, the one I bought was great (not being biased or anything...). Epiphone is cheap because of dodgy quality control, and that means there's some diamonds in the rough but there's a lot of rubbish, making it impossible to say one model is great.

In short: go and play. Preferably play other guitars of the same model to compare. It's the only way to be sure

  • I've just bought another sheraton tonight, 8 years after i sold my old one....i originally sold mine as it was too big to travell with on busses but i missed the quality of a sheraton.

like with any guitar, its always good to have someone check it over, set it up and do any fret work it needs etc

i have just bought a 1997 model, sunburst fitted with new p-90 pick ups, new pots and jack so when it arrives it will go straight to mate bob for its set up and we will be away!.

i loved my shearaton back in the day because for its price..it felt like quality...i paid £299 for my old one and that was refurbished, ebony with gold hardware...i've paid £230 for this one and it has a new hard case and a few battle scars to-boot but its the sound you can get that is pretty damn cool

those original humbuckers can get an awesome sound, they do not sound cheap at all...but ll i can say is...get it checked over unfortunatly some duds do come out of the factory doors

    leeds 26/08/06....electric
    paris 11/09/06.....crushed...but estatic
    wembley 18/06/07.....oh yes

They're definitely cool guitars. I was itching for a Casino for a while but as I am a poor poor college student, I don't even have enough money for new cables at this point. It doesn't matter what it says on the headstock, see if it feels right to you. If it's not love at first strum, there's your answer I would say (unless you're made of cash).

As was said, it depends on the Epiphone (Sheraton).
New they are $599 US - meaning about $10 more CAN ($609).
I've played a bunch over the years - I remember 2 that I thought were nice.
You NEED to go play it a lot (go back a few times, don't jump on it immediately).
Why just have dad check it out if it's for you - you need to go check it out yourself.
Since you're the one that will be playing it, you need to decide (for yourself).
I mean hey, it's your money - RIGHT???
I love Hollowbodies, and have owned a bunch - they are all different - play it.

Well, my guitar collection just got a little bigger!

It was $600 out the door with case and strap, BEAUTIFUL condition. I played a fair number, and I'm in love haha.

I LOVE the guitar, but I may wanna change the pickups, they're a LITTLE muddy. Any suggestions?

And thanks for all the compliments!

sweet. i used to have one but didn't bond with the neck. loved the sound though and still love my casino. i do want another semi-hollow someday when i'm playing again.

i used to have a dot (bigger neck) that i put 57 classics into and it was quite nice.

Depends on the sound you're looking for - Gibson puts these in their 335's:

However, I'd recommend that you go play a variety of other Semi-Hollowbodies
at a bunch of local guitar shops to see which ones you like the sound of best.
Then you can easily look up what pickups are in those Semi-Hollowbodies.
It's definitely going to be the best way to figure out what sound you want.
This way you get the sound you're after, not just basing it on our opinion.
    Cheers . . .
