I'm too stupid to use my recording program

I got the Cubase program to record to my computer a while ago and I can't figure out how to hook things up to record into it. The manual wasn't clear about the proper chain. I hooked everything up the way I thought it should go and I got nothing.

Can anyone explain to me how to run your guitar into your computer for recording on Cubase? I'm currently using a Dell laptop. Keep in mind I'm technologically retarded.

    I am not too knowledgeable about computer recording, but I know that you need some type of interface between the computer and the guitar or mic or whatever. Do you have this?
