38 Special - Hold On Loosely

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMxqPRdR36I

You see it all around you
Good lovin' gone bad
And usually it's too late when you, realize what you had
And my mind goes back to a girl I left some years ago,
Who told me,
Just Hold On Loosely, but don't let go
If you cling to tightly,
you're gonna lose control
Your baby needs someone to believe in
And a whole lot of space to breathe in

It's so damn easy, when your feelings are such
To overprotect her, to love her too much
And my mind goes back to a girl I left some years ago
Who told me,
Just Hold On Loosely, but don't let go
If you cling too tight babe,
you're gonna loose control
Your baby needs someone to believe in
And a whole lot of space to breathe in

Don't let her slip away
Sentimental fool
Don't let your heart get in her way
yeah, yeah, yeah,

You see it all around you
Good lovin' gone bad
And usually it's too late when you, realize what you had
And my mind goes back to a girl I left some years ago,
Who told me,
Just Hold On Loosely, but don't let go
If you cling to tightly,
you're gonna lose control
Your baby needs someone to believe in
And a whole lot of space to breathe in

So Hold On Loosely, but don't let go
If you cling too tight babe,
you're gonna lose it
You're gonna -- lose control
yeah, yeah, yeah Just Hold On Loosely but don't let go
If you cling too tight babe,
you're gonna loose control

Hold on Loosely, but don't let go
If you cling too tight babe,
you're gonna loose control
yeah, yeah, yeah

Sheila E. - The Glamorous Life

    http://noolmusic.com/blogs/YouTube_Music_Videos_80s_90s_Rock_Pop_-_Sheila_E_-_The_Glamorous_Life.shtml

She wears a long fur coat of mink
    Even in the summer time
Everybody knows from the coy little wink
The girl's got a lot on her mind

She's got big thoughts, big dreams
And a big brown Mercedes sedan
    What I think this girl
    She really wants
Is to be in love with a man

She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
    She don't need a man's touch
She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
    Without love
    It ain't much

She saw him standing in the section marked
If you have to ask you can't afford it lingerie
She threw him bread and said make me scream
In the dark what could he say

Boys with small talk and small minds
Really don't impress me in bed
She said, I need a man's man, baby
    Diamonds and furs
Love would only conquer my head

She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
    She don't need a man's touch
She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
    Without love
    It ain't much

They made haste in the brown sedan
They drove to 55 Secret street
They made love and by the seventh wave
She knew she had a problem
She thought real love is real scary
    Money only pays the rent
    Love is forever
    That's all your life
    Love is heaven sent
    It's glamorous

She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
    She don't need a man's touch
She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
    Without love
    It ain't much
    It ain't much

She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
    She don't need a man's touch
She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
    Without love
    It ain't much
    It ain't much

    Lead the Glamorous Life
    She don't need a man's touch
She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
    Without love
    It ain't much
    It ain't much

    Sister Christian
    Oh the time has come
And you know that you're the only one
    To say O.K.
    Where you going
    What you looking for
    You know those boys
Don't want to play no more with you
    It's true

    You're motoring
    What's your price for flight
    In finding mister right
    You'll be alright tonight

    Babe you know
    You're growing up so fast
    And mama's worrying
    That you won't last
    To say let's play
    Sister Christian
There's so much in life Don't you give it up
    Before your time is due
    It's true
    It's true yeah

    Motoring
    What's your price for flight
You've got him in your sight
    And driving thru the night
    Motoring
    What's your price for flight
    In finding mister right
    You'll be alright tonight

    Motoring
    What's your price for flight
    In finding mister right
    You'll be alright tonight
    (repeat)

    Sister Christian

And you know that you're the only one

My Friend Rodney Mills produced and engineered that album for them (Wild-Eyed Southern Boys).
Rodney's done like 5 of their albums (he also worked with Van Zant's brother Ronnie in Lynyrd Skynyrd).

Men at work - Land down under.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNT7uZf7lew

    Travelling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
    And she said,

"Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscle
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
    And he said,

"I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover." (Yeahhh!)

Dying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and nothin' much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"
    And he said,

"Oh, you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? (ooohh)
You better run, you better take cover."

    We are..

Livin' in a land down under,
Where women glow and men plunder, (yeahhhhhhhhhh)
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? (thunderrrrr!)
You better run, you better take cover.

Livin' in a land down under,
Where women glow and men plunder,
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? (oooo yeahhhh!)
Then I run, and then I take cover. (yea)

    We are...

Livin' in a land down under, (underrrr)
Where women glow and men plunder,
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? (oooo da da laa yeahhh!)
Then I run, then I take cover

    Crowded House - Don't Dream it's over.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZZfuCJ970w

    There is freedom within
    There is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a papercup
    There's a battle ahead,
    Many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
    while you're travelling with me
    Hey now, hey now
    Don't Dream It's Over
    Hey now, hey now
    When the world comes in
    They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know that they won't win
    Now I'm towing my car
There's a hole in the roof
    My possesions are causing me
    suspicion but there's no proof
    In the paper today
    Tales of war and waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page
    Hey now, hey now
    Don't Dream It's Over
    Hey now, hey now
    When the world comes in
    They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know that they won't win
    Now I'm walking again
To the beat of a drum
    And I'm counting the steps
to the door of your heart
    Only the shadows ahead
    Barely clearing the roof
    Get to know the feeling
    of liberation and relief
    Hey now, hey now
    Don't Dream It's Over
    Hey now, hey now
    When the world comes in
    They come, they come
To build a wall between us
    We know they won't win
    We know they won't win
    Hey now, hey now
    Hey now, hey now
    Hey now, hey now
    Hey now, hey now

I have little 80's love, but stuff from Dire Straits and U2 would top the list.
I'm doing an Eighties night with my band soon, and it's interesting trying to find rock stuff to suit our style.
I've been heavily shedding Streets since I got my new delay pedal and that is starting to come together. Now I've just got to convince our singer she can do it.

Written & composed by michael jackson.

    1st verse
She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said dont mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one who will dance on the floor in the round
    2nd verse
She told me her name was billie jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round

    Bridge
People always told me be careful of what you do
And dont go around breaking young girls hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do cause the lie becomes the truth

    Chorus
Billie jean is not my lover
Shes just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

    3rd verse
For forty days and forty nights
The law was on her side
But who can stand when shes in demand
    Her schemes and plans
cause we danced on the floor in the round
So take my strong advice, just remember to always think twice
    (do think twice)

    4th verse
She told my baby,we where dancing still 3:00
Then she looked at me, she show me a photo
My baby cried, cause his eyes where like mine

    Bridge
People always told me be careful of what you do
And dont go around breaking young girls hearts
She came and stood right by me
Then the smell of sweet perfume
    This happened much too soon
She called me to her room
    Chorus
Billie jean is not my lover
Shes just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
Billie jean is not my lover
Shes just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
Billie jean is not my lover
Shes just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, she says he is my son
She says I am the one
Billie jean is not my lover
Billie jean is not my lover
Billie jean is not my lover
Billie jean is not my lover
Billie jean is not my lover
Billie jean is not my lover

Talking of 80's love, one of the best nights out i ever had (and i wasn't expecting it to be, so that made it all the better!), was when i went out with some mates and old people (parents ;)) for a benefit night for the victims and families of the bali bombings. They had a band there that was playing really old school 80's tunes. Most of them were before my time, but i can remember hearing lots of the tunes as i was growing up over the years. They played stuff from the Church, ACDC, INXS, Men At Work, Crowded House, Hoodoo Gurus. Skyhooks haha and few others! Unreal Night. Such fun.

Yeah, there is so OK, stuff there, but it was hidden amongst so much dross.
I realyl percieve tha the jaor musical trends occurred more around the middle of the decades, rather than neatly at the biginnign and end.
The archetypal 80's synth/big hair stuff was more mid-80's to mid 90's. Early 80's was quite different, more rock based. I discovered Pearl Jam in 1996, and bands like Soundgarden, Bush etc a mere couple of years earlier. It was like coming up for a breath after being held down for a long time by a really big wave. Yeah, I know I'm slow, tell me about it.
We do Don't Change, Better by Screaming Jets, and a few other overseas 80's songs. WE keep mumbling about adding some Hoodoo Gurus, but it has not happened yet.

I am also a fan of:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMWXyEHoN88

    Talking away
    I don't know what I'm to say
    I'll say it anyway
today's another day to find you
    Shying away
I'll be coming for you love O.K.

    Take on me
    Take me on
    I'll be gone
    in a day or two

So needless to say I'm odds and ends
    But that's me, stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is O.K.
    Say after me
It's no better to be safe than sorry.

    Take on me
    Take me on
    I'll be gone
    in a day or two.

    The things that you say
Is it live or just to play
    My worries away
You're all the things I've got to remember
    You shying away
I'll be coming for you anyway

    Take on me
    Take me on
    I'll be gone
    in a day or two

My favorite song of the 80's:

    Fugazi - "Suggestion"
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIywtO0OY78

Why can't I walk down a street free of suggestion?
Is my body the only trait in the eyes of men?
    I've got some skin
    You want to look in
There lays no reward in what you discover
You spent yourself watching me suffer
Suffer you words, suffer your eyes, suffer your hands
Suffer your interpretation of what it is to be a man
    I've got some skin
    You want to look in
She does nothing to deserve it
He only wants to observe it
We sit back like they taught us
We keep quiet like they taught us
He just wants to prove it
She does nothing to remove it
We don't want anyone to mind us
So we play the roles that they assigned us
She does nothing to conceal it
He touches her 'cause he wants to feel it
We blame her for being there
    But we are all
    Guilty.

hey, they just had a countdown of the top 100 80's songs on vh1 today! my favorite 80's song's gotta be 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns n Roses
    what a riff!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-AYAv0IoWI

She's got a smile that it seems to me
    Reminds me of childhood memories
    Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry

    Oh, Oh, Oh
    Sweet child o' mine
    Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
    Sweet love of mine

She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
    And pray for the thunder
    And the rain
    To quietly pass me by

    Oh, Oh, Oh
    Sweet child o' mine
    Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
    Sweet love of mine

    Oh, Oh, Oh yea
    Oh, Oh, Oh
    Sweet child o' mine
    Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
    Sweet love of mine

    Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Sweet child o' mine...Oooo yeah heah
    Ooooh
    Sweet love of mine

    Where do we go?
    Where do we go now?
    Where do we go?
    Oh, Oh
    Where do we go?
    Oh,
    Where do we go now?
    Where do we go?
    oh,(sweet child)
    Where do we go now?
    Oh,
    Where do we go now?
    Oh,
    Where do we go?
    Oh,
    Where do we go now?
    Oh,
    Where do we go?
    Where do we go now?
    Where do we go?
    Oh,
    Where do we go now?
No, No, No, No, No, No
    Sweet child,
    Sweet Child
    of mine.

So much great stuff in the 80's. It wasn't all about the big hair! :D

....and you can never go wrong with run dmc & aerosmith's 'walk this way'
those would round out my top 3!

So you got into them around the no code/yield era? What an awesome time to discover them! I'm 25 and been into Pearl Jam hardcore since i was 12. When i've gone to PJ concerts over the years (first one i was 15) and looked around and seen so many people so much older than me rocking out to them, i think it's just testament to how awesome they are and how cool it is that there is such a range in the age of their fans. Not that i'm calling you old, noooo way, but it's just such a wicked cool feeling. People all ages love this band.

I tried to crypt walk during a show AND use my pedals....but, while I'm good at doing both alone, putting them together was a disaster...have you ever seen a lead guitarist/lead singer dance and then fall...VERY hard? Quite funny.

    I can't get to sleep
    I think about the implications
    Of diving in too deep
    And possibly the complications

    Especially at night
    I worry over situations
    I know I'll be alright
    Perhaps it's just imagination

    Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
    Ghosts appear and fade away

    Alone between the sheets
    Only brings exasperation
It's time to walk the streets
    Smell the desperation

    At least there's pretty lights
    And though there's little variation
It nullifies the night from overkill

    Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
    Ghosts appear and fade away
    Come back another day

    I can't get to sleep
    I think about the implications
    Of diving in too deep
    And possibly the complications

    Especially at night
    I worry over situations
    I know I'll be alright
    It's just overkill

    Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
    Ghosts appear and fade away
    Ghosts appear and fade away
    Ghosts appear and fade away

    Cyndi Lauper - True Colors
    http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=1ph7p7DT53Y

    You with the sad eyes
    don't be discouraged
    oh I realize
    it's hard to take courage
in a world full of people
you can lose sight of it all
    and the darkness inside you
can make you fell so small

But I see your true colors
    shining through
    I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
    your true colors
    true colors are beautiful
    like a rainbow

    Show me a smile then
    don't be unhappy, can't remember
when I last saw you laughing
if this world makes you crazy
and you've taken all you can bear
    you call me up
because you know I'll be there

And I'll see your true colors
    shining through
    I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
    your true colors
    true colors are beautiful
    like a rainbow

    Genesis - Land of confusion
    http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=3MzShg7yXik

I mustve dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
    Theyre moving into the street.

Now did you read the news today
They say the dangers gone away
But I can see the fires still alight
    There burning into the night.

    Theres too many men
    Too many people
    Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
    Cant you see
This is a land of confusion.

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands were given
Use them and lets start trying
To make it a place worth living in.

Ooh superman where are you now
    When everythings gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, the men of power
Are losing control by the hour.

    This is the time
    This is the place
So we look for the future
But theres not much love to go round
Tell me why, this is a land of confusion.

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands were given
Use them and lets start trying
To make it a place worth living in.

    I remember long ago -
Ooh when the sun was shining
Yes and the stars were bright
    All through the night
And the sound of your laughter
    As I held you tight
    So long ago -

I wont be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
    Were not just making promises
That we know, well never keep.

    Too many men
    Theres too many people
    Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
    Cant you see
This is a land of confusion.

Now this is the world we live in
And these are the hands were given
Use them and lets start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for.

This is the world we live in
And these are the names were given
Stand up and lets start showing
Just where our lives are going to

    John Lennon - Imagine
    http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=jEOkxRLzBf0

    Imagine there's no Heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people
    Living for today

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I think Imagine is one of the most overrated songs. I know it's a sin to say something bad about Lennon on a PJ forum but I never could get into Lennon or The Beatles, for that matter.

On another note, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is a good 80's song

So you got into them around the no code/yield era? What an awesome time to discover them! I'm 25 and been into Pearl Jam hardcore since i was 12. When i've gone to PJ concerts over the years (first one i was 15) and looked around and seen so many people so much older than me rocking out to them, i think it's just testament to how awesome they are and how cool it is that there is such a range in the age of their fans. Not that i'm calling you old, noooo way, but it's just such a wicked cool feeling. People all ages love this band.

Yes, it was Yield. I had heard Spin the Black Circle on the radio, but I didn't like it. Someone at work was griping taht theie husband had bought this PJ crap on an overseas trip. I said, hey get out of your groove, let me have a listen. So they loaned it to me, and I loved it.
I love One too, but I did not get into Metallica until Load, so I can't claim them as 80's music.
I never lsiten to the radio so I'm always decades behind everyone else with new music.
And I am oldish, 44. Same age as Ed and James Hetfield, pretty much.
    Music is not a competetion.
