Chorus/Flange

So I posted this on TGP but I figured I could get a response here too.

So here's my board as-is:

Crybaby 95Q -> Dynacomp -> Phase 90 -> TS9dx -> DS-1 -> DD-6

There's some modulation missing between the DS-1 and the DD-6, and I'm trying to figure what would best fill that void. Birthday's coming up so pooling together some funds, I'd like to spend not more than $170, and cheaper is always better as long as sound quality is still there.

Options:
MXR Stereo Chorus: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MXR-M134-Stereo-Chorus-Pedal?sku=151119
Heard some good reviews about this guy, but I don't know that many people who use it.

MXR M-117R Flanger: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MXR-M117R-Flanger-Pedal?sku=151122
Again, many good reviews but this is the reissue, and I've been told countless times "The reissues never sound as good as the originals." All I want it to do is have a good flanging range.

Boss BF-3: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Boss-BF3-Flanger?sku=151423
Digital, could be metallic sounding but what's forcing me to consider it is the stereo operation and the gate/pan feature, check out the soundclip on MF.

EHX Stereo Clone Theory: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ElectroHarmonix-Micro-Clone-Theory-Stereo-Chorus-Effects-Pedal?sku=150129
Looks good, but I can't find sound clips for it anywhere. I'd never use the vibrato on it, primarily interested in the chorus. I'd go with this over the Small Clone simply because I've heard quality complaints on the Small Clone like having the stomp switch cave in or whatnot.

Honestly, for me these are the "expensive" pedals and whatever one of these I'd wind up getting (chorus or flange) I could get the other cheaper and used on eBay later, or just build one from BYOC. Also, does anyone have any clue which, if any, of these pedals are true-bypass?

Take a look into the Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble ($79 bucks) and sounds better than the CH-1.
It's got great EQ control, especially with the "knob in knob" high and low filters.
http://www.bossus.com/index.asp?pg=1&tmp=10 I've used mine for over 10 years now.
You can hear my CE-5 in action in the 2nd song on my MySpace Page ("Mine of Mikes of Miles").
I use it all the way through the tune - http://www.myspace.com/ianvomsaal
    Cheers . . .

Also just found this guy, though again I don't know anyone who uses it. Hadn't heard of it before tonight but it seems pretty versatile for the price.

  • I've got a CH-1 and a BF-3 and I love them both. The BF-3 is very versatile and the CH-1 adds a nice thickness or sharpness to your tone. But meh, I'm not too picky when it comes to modulation effects.
