Pedal Novice

I have my stratocaster and roland cube amp with a small distortion and gain option right on the amp so I thusfar have not used a pedal. I'm certain all of you are going to tell me I should, so in sum, I'm looking for something to give me a fair amount of sustain and possibly some tremolo/vibrato. Suggestions?

Sustain...true sustain, comes from the guitar and your hands. I can sustain a clean note for 20-30 seconds. A good set-up on your strat will be far more valuable to you than a pedal to fake sustain.

Having said that, if you want to go the pedal route, you can get pretty good sustain from a Rat, but it's a high gain pedal. compressors are cool, but tend to make a strat sound pingy to me. Maybe a Boss CS3?
