Tube Choice

So I need a new set of power tubes for my Traynor. Anyone know if there's any difference between a 6L6GB/6L6GC tube and if it makes a difference for amp performance? The YCV40 says it uses 2x 6L6GB sovteks, and I'm just wondering if I should get that exact tube or if some other kind of 6L6 will work equally well?

I think an other traynor user on the board was a big fan of svetlana (winged C's) in your amp I'm not sure if it was GC or GB but I believe he went with the 6L6GC's. You have to bias the amp anyway for the new tubes.

I believe the GC's are higher output 30 watts as opposed to the 25 watt GB's. It determines how much plate voltage you can run.

Lord Valve is very astute on those kind of questions. check out his question and answer forum at http://www.theguitarhub.com

My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
  • Paco, could you (or anyone else that reads this and knows) briefly explain biasing the amp for new tubes? I'm sure at some point now, I'll be needing new tubes and i want to be prepared.

yeah no kidding, as into this stuff as I am I still want to be able to play everything too. The whole point is playing right? I guess if I was a builder though I'd like having all those to compare.
