Was it the whole band or just ed who didnt want fame?

When Vs and Vitalogy came out they started backing away from the spotlight, despite the fact they were probably one of if not the biggest band in the world.

no interviews or videos. no magazine covers etc...

my question is: obviously we all know ed wanted them to pull back, he has admitted no code was an attempt to lose fans.

but was it the whole band who agreed? Was it only ed that didnt want fame? Do you think their were fights within the band about this?

I think they all wanted fame, but on their own terms. They pretty much got what they wanted. Control over their own music.

I think I read a Jeff quote from somewhere that when they decided to pull back a little it was mostly for Ed's benefit because he was dealing with stalkers, etc. I'm sure things got crazy for all of them, but I think it affected Ed the most.

Ed was the spokesman for the band at that time so you'll probably find more quotes from him on it, but I think although it was probably mostly because of problems Ed had with it the whole band made the decision to pull back and I seem to rememeber Jeff saying as much in an interview years later. I've always got the impression Mike has always been the most comfortable with the whole fame thing and he was having problems around that time with alcohol. That could've been a factor too as I'm sure they could see they were going though some tough times as a band and that if they didn't pull back they proabably wouldn't be a band anymore.

Yeah, Dave had a thing with a drum magaizine (drum world) which was booked and agreed on prior to the bands decision of going underground. It had just been delayed for a while. Dave was denied to do the interview, but thought it was highly unfair and he didnt want to bail on the journalist who had prepared his piece for several weeks.

Dave ended up doing the interview, something that made Eddie furious!

Don't think Ed really ever cared for Dave A. and wanted his own guy (Jack) in there. They never did see eye to eye on the whole Ticketmaster thing either.

I can't back up the fact part, but from what I've read and thought about, it definitely seems so. He talks about being excited that Last Kiss hit high on charts and saying that he wants to play the "hits".

    I don't think it's too late.
I think He should stay as He was then, this "being unfamous" is making Him special celebrity

Obviously they could have garnered a lot more fame had they chosen to do so, but they can still sell out arenas pretty much anywhere in the world whenever they want to........
