I hope this is the right forum...

Anyways i'm looking for a stereo receiver. I really don't know much about them. I have an old one right now, but I want to buy something new and nice.

I think I have it narrowed down to three...

If you had to pick from these three which one would you choose? And if you think these are shit, then please show me something else.

Now are you looking for home theatre (6.1, 7.1 surround) or just a pure stereo reciever?

Currently I own all Denon components. I love it and route everything through it though it might be a little cold for some tastes. My next reciever will probably be something from the Yamaha Top Art Line. Yamaha is a bit more lifelike and warm to me, but it's apples and oranges. They are both excellent. My buddy has a Technics SL-1200 turntable(what a freaking cool wife) with a nice shure cartrige and it sounds fantastic through his Denon (we have the same reciever)

Make sure you get a reciever with plenty of power (Power and low THD = clarity) Both the Yamaha and Denon have very nice amplifier designs and have quite low Total Harmonic Destortion levels.

That NAD should be quality as well unfortunately I have no experience.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

    Just a pure stereo reciever.

Oh, well denon and yamaha both have the "direct" functions that are supposed to turn everything else off and give you the pure stereo sound.

But, as a general rule.....It works in guitar amps for me too. If it's extra, normally you don't need it.

I would look around for the best pure stereo reviever you can find. A dual monoblock amp (one amp per speaker) will give you the best sound quality.

It just depends on what you need. If you can afford a tube amp, I'd go that route.

in fact if you just want a great sounding and looking small dual monoblock hifi amp check this little gem out.

here's a great B&K if you can find a preamp

but if you don't want to spend that much the NAD or a Rotel might be a great option.

A good guy to talk with that's usually on the Porch is Vedderenarian.

I actually have that yamaha receiver and I love it. All the rest of my system is denon products and some maple B&W 705s.
