Portable Rehearsal Room? Anyone build one?

I'm thinking about moving, from a townhouse to a "real" house with some land, and I'm thinking that instead of finding one with a basement (which is hard to find in this city (clay ground makes for flooding) that maybe it would be best to invest in a shed like the link below (maybe bigger) and heavily insulate the walls for sound and that way I can play, and it won't disturb the neighbors nor will I have to worry about a basement.

And when I eventually move, I just bring the rehearsal space with me to the next house.

My concerns are a few - most of which are temperature (freezing will crack expensive cymbals, etc) and noise insulation.

Anyone ever do this? Anyone interested on commenting on the idea?

Very curious...

Thanks!

sheds get bloody hot in the summer. mine's like a sauna.

    my concerns would be;
    - running power to it,
    - securing it (the punks in the neighbour are going to suss that out pretty quick
    - the heat/cold is going to be hell on the guitars. it'll probably destroy them in short order. but presumably you wouldn't leave them in there.
    - the amount of insulation required for sound is going eat into the floor space.

better bet would be a place with an attached garage.

    good points.

I'm wondering if some sort of air conditioning unit and heating units could also be installed to automatically moderate the temperature - but I suppose that may add an additional several thousand plus to the project.

i would use that as the argument for dedicating a room in the house as the music room. :)

you'd be better off renting rehearsal space at that point.

maybe buying a space in a not-expensive old building somewhere.

...but it would be better to have close access to the instruments, for the casual desire to play.

i totally understand. when i lived by myself, i was in an apartment and a townhouse and had to be quiet.

now i have a house.... and a wife.... and baby.... and i have to be quiet all the time. :(

    rarely get to crank it.

I think this is a big ask.

Converting a shed, lining it, air-conditioning etc, is not such a big ask. MOving said structure, different story.

A caravan would be best, tear out teh guts to optimise space, has a small footprint and limited wall space, so relaatively cheap to insulate etc. Would certainly be portable, but maybe too portable if thieves decided to roll awway wiht it. Might be limited to how many guys you could get in, drums etc might be a hassle.
The highs adn mid frequencies are pretty easy to insulate, but the low frequencies travel for miles.
Also you get a beer fridge, adn pre-wirinf with a caravan, not to be sneezed at.
    Music is not a competetion.

You mean like an RV? Good idea.

OK, so I picked a tiny one, they do come much bigger.

I dunno what you septics call shit, maybe a "trailer" as in "trailer trash" ??

    Fucking box on wheels !!

Carpet or eggshell foam is going to be the best bet for insulating a room anyhoo.

I agree, converting a room (read: garage) is probably your best bet. While house hunting, try to find a place that you can see yourself living in for five to ten years or longer. I'd say finding the right place (with the right capacity for a studio) is a better payoff than investing in a portable studio shed.

Yeah, I would just pay to soundproof an extra room in your house. It will be cheaper too. That way you can jam and not disturb your neighbors or others in the house.
