Equipment On New Xmas Single

I noticed that the recording device on the single cover is a Tascam 8 track recorder and that the guitar is a Gibson, but I was wondering what the other equipment was. Does anyone know what else was used to record "Gone". I have an analog tape Tascam 4 track recorder and I am pretty pleased with it but I would like to get something better. If "Gone" can be written with this very affordable equipment than maybe I could get something similar. My Tascam, though decent just doesn't sound too professional once burned onto cd from the tape. Obviously you don't get the best sound with a tape, but I was wondering if anyone could give advise. In addition, are there any recommendations of a decent affordable mic to use. My mic was like $30 and it just plan sucks. I might as well be singing through a styrofoam cup and string...LOL

There is a thread on this further down, the guitar is a Pete Townsend Custom Shop model LP Deluxe.

A shure SM57 or 58 or some kind of derivative therin will help out greatly on that rig. Pearl Jam usually uses Audix OM5's live. I've heard Blue mics in the studio, but I'm not sure which ones, If he did the tracks on the Tascam I doubt he really has Blues laying around at home. It's probably what was handy, and Shure SM58's and 57's are pretty much the most handy mics around in any setting. In any case they will make a difference in your sound too.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is that used for. Is that like an XLP imput function or what??

basically for managing inputs and outputs like mics, guitars etc.etc

Is that essential for studio quality sound. I'm asking because I have a Tascam 4-track recorder now, but it's analog tape and it sounds like crap. I want to get a new recorder maybe the one shown on the album or something better and am looking for what I need in addition to have studio quality sound. Eventually, when I can afford a house I plan on building a really good studio, but that won't be for at least a couple of years. In the meantime I need something that I can finish my record in my apartment on.

Thanks, I really appreciate your input.

no, it's not necessary in this sort of scenario when the recorder itself has inputs suitable for what you want to plug in.

it is nice to have in certain situations where, for instance, you have a whole bunch of sources and only two inputs on a recorder or something.

Well I'm kind of a solo artist right now. Eventually when I get a home I plan on playing with more people at a time so then, I may get my 24 track mixing console and so forth. I think playing two at a time, like this Tascam should be suitable. Any reason why Eddie used that other input?? What benefit did that do for him??

  • Last question for today. What benefit does that other device that Eddie has hooked up to his 8 track have for recording? Does it relieve some of the feedback, clear up the mic..?? Just curious since I am new as well to recording.

Thanks again for your help. Your input is appreciated.
