Does anyone know if this is a decent recording studio?

Hey everyone. I am looking for an affordable studio to work with in my small apartment until I get a house and build the real deal. I was just wondering if anyone knew if this was a decent setup to record vocals, guitars and other instruments, and if it is good enough to make near pro sounding songs? It comes with monitors, the mixer, mic, mic stand and cables.

Cool, thanks for the insight. Being that I don't have the space for the computer setup and my "Full" studio right now, I thought it may suit my purpose currently. It may be 2-4 years before I have the space to get my full setup.

    Ugggh...marketing.

That's not a studio, my friend. It's a recording interface w/ a modest set of tools to support calling it a package. You should be able to get decent results with it. It will be better than making a boombox recording, but not better than working in an actual studio. Looks like a dec ent package for the home recording enthusiast.

Understood. Yeah, I know it's not really a studio, but I actually found a better one for not much more from Korg. See currently I have an analog 4track recorder, a bad mic, and no monitors. I just thought something like this would suit me to record my songs until I can get the Apple G5, Firewire, Protools, 24 track Allen and Heath mixer, etc etc. Thanks again for your insight. I definitely am not really knowledgeable about this stuff.

I'd skip the monitors and monitor through headphones...would give you more $ to upgrade your interface :)

    Just a thought.

Just a word of advice re: the last post... never record without monitors during the final mix down. Things that sound great in headphones don't always sound great through speakers. That said before you complete your master make sure o play it through a variety of equipment to get your sound right.

    another 2 cents...

I agree for an initial savings, but mixing with head phones for a final mix is not easy. I do use them though, mostly for the "hidden" items that I just want to show up.

Good point, thanks. Yeah, even now, I play it in my car, through headphones, home stereo...etc. That is def. true.

i dunno if an allen and heath desk is gonna be any good to you for recording purposes. Let me know what model your looking at and i`ll let you know how usefull i think it`ll be for you. (im a test engineer and technical support advisor at allen and heath here in the uk haha ) If your looking at a 24 channel mixer that kinda narrows it down to a smaller but pricey gl4800, an older gl3300, a gl2200 or 2800 or maybe one of our PA mixers. It wont be a mix wizard cause they dont go up to 24 channel.
I'm not saying stupidity should be a capital offence, but what say we take the safety labels off everything and let nature run it's course?

Cool, thanks man. I am not sure of the model off hand, but I saw it in a recording booklet from Guitar Center. I don't necessarily need that brand, I just thought it looked like a high quality board. As I stated though, it will be a while before I go that route. I think I am just going to get this Korg package in the meantime for the space I have to record in. I am estimating my ideal "Home-basement" studio I plan on eventually building will probably cost me in the ball park of $10,000 if not more.
