Has anyone used this?

Has anyone used this or know of anyone who has? I am considering purchasing this and wanted to know how the quality of recordings are on it.

I am by no means amazing at guitar and vocals, but I occasionally write some pretty cool stuff and wanted to know if this is good enough to record on, without having to spend over $5000 for a full computer based system.

It has 8 tracks which is probably the most I will need, but an additional 8 virtual tracks per channel so I have more if needbe.

wouldn't need to spend $5K for a computer based system at all.

it can be done easily for under 2K.

that being said, my experience with this type of machine is with a tascam 788. quite similar but this korg looks to be more powerful.

my recording quality was fairly good. did a couple listenable (songwriting aside) CDs with it. could have made them sound better if i'd had more skill in recording at the time.

takes a while to learn and get comfortable but pretty straightforward once you're rolling.

I'd go MBox2 instead. or other computer software, I have a BR532 It's alright, but can't approach the quality on a computer, it's really only good enough to record riffs or belief live recordings to remember later.

You get used to it essentially, but it's almost just as easy to just get something that's connected to a computer sytem. You ALWAYS need more tracks.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

Looks fine for a quick record and go (and there's a USB out).
I like that it has XLR inputs (it's nice to be able to plug a mic right in).
However, I'd recommend maybe spending some time with it in the store before you decide to purchase.
It is digital, but the sound quality might not be what you're expecting (depends what you're hoping for,
you'll definitely here a difference between this and something done with Pro-Tools and a good Preamp).
It's always a bit difficult to get a really good sound out of a simple plug and play recorder.

Remember, you can also get the Mbox 2 Pro w/ Protools LE for the same $699

or for $100 more you can get the Digidesign Mbox 2 Pro Factory Bundle FIREWIRE Audio and Midi Interface

This all depends if you have a computer to run it --
However, take a look at what you can also get with an Mbox:

Very cool! Thanks for your help everyone. I know that the computer thing is inevitable. I just need to learn patience. I keep wanting to throw my money away on things that will tie me over until I get that, and that isn't very smart. Figure I just save up about $2000 and I will have my computer, mbox, firewire and protools setup, give or take a few hundred.
