  • What kind of 'grunge'? MLB, AIC, Soundgarden, PJ, Nirvana, Mudhoney, etc...
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

Pawn shop guitar. Kim Thayil bought his #1 S-100 for a couple hundred bucks in a pawn shop. You probably can't score an S-100 for that kind of coin these days, but there are lots of other cool pawnshop prizes to be had.

Peavey VTM 120 - Good enough for Kim Thayil up to Badmotorfinger, good enough for anyone. $200-300 bucks on e-bay

Marshall cabinet - plentiful, inexpensive, good enough for rock and roll. $300-400 bucks with some miles on it.

A fuzz of some sort. Maybe a wah if you play lead.
  • tube screamer....and don't forget your cargo shorts
