good starter bass/package?

i've always been in love with music but never really thought about playing. but i'm always wishing i knew how to play a particular song and i find myself playing on air. and i've also fallen in love with what a good bass sound does for a song, so i'd like to give it a shot.

any recommendations on what i could start with? this is something i'll probably just be playing in my room by myself but i'd like to get a nice, decent bass guitar, nothing fancy or flashy. any help is GREATLY appreciated
