I'm switching back to heavy strings.

For the longest time when I first started out playing I used 10-48 gauge strings, and they hurt my hands. Once I got used to them, I switched up to 11-52 (or 54). In the last band I played in, we did a lot of Van Halen, shred metal type of stuff, so I put back on the 10-48 gauge. Now that I'm out of that stuff, and more into McCready/Gilmour blues/rock type stuff. I need heavy strings again.
When I played the Van Halen stuff, I used really wide vibrato and now it's out of control. I can't even do a bluesy bend without going nuts on the fast-wide vibrato. I can bend like 2 and a half steps without even flinching. It's ridiculous.
Nothing like more tension on my fingers to slow down the bends and vibrato.
Anyone else ever experiment with string gauges?

Ya, because I play acoustic so much and for such a long time, I need a heavier set on my electric. I find lighter gauged strings harder to play.laziness is our downfall0
