On iTunes/Windows Media Player how is your graphic equaliser set up?
Mine is:
32Hz: 3dB
64Hz: 6dB
125Hz: 9dB
250Hz: 7dB
500Hz: 6dB
1kHz: 5dB
2kHz: 7dB
4kHz: 9dB
8kHz: 11dB
16kHz: 8dB
I find this makes the guitars especially lead sound very crisp and bright. This is great becasue I feel some lead guitar parts get lost is the rhythm parts and becomes a bit of a wash. The middle frequencies are slightly down to prevent rhythm sections from dominating. The upper bass frequencies are turned up so the bass and drums sound clear but not high enough to be overwhelming and impeade the higher frequencies of the lead guitar and cymbals.
