Hey,

I have a mixer, and im looking into getting some speakers. Its mainly for small gig purpose only, like friend basements, parties whatever, nothing HUGE yet. Im just wondering if the Main outs can directly plug into the speakers? and would i need "Powered Drivers" or "Unpowered Drivers". I know power amps are highly suggested but currently i dont have the money, or a huge crowd yet...so please try and help, thanks!

if your mixer has powered outs then no you wont need powered speakers but if it doesnt then you`ll either need a power amp to drive the speakers or a set of powered speakers.
I'm not saying stupidity should be a capital offence, but what say we take the safety labels off everything and let nature run it's course?
  • so if i get a set of powered speakers, i can run a signal from the main outs into the speakers, and it will then it will drive the sound appropriately?

do you have a powered or non powered mixer?
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

ah, ok, you will either need a seperate amplifier, or powered monitors. Then hookup accordingly.

yeah i don't really want to get into an amplifier, id rather just plug direct from my mixer to powered speakers, thanks for the help BTW, once i get a bigger crowd, i'll want teh use of sub's and what not, then i will of course get hooked up with a nice amped system

Don't know what your definition of "don't have the money" means, however, get an "open box" speaker, the discounts are good and if you take your time you can find a quality powered speaker at a very reasonable price. JLBs, Yamaha, etc.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.
