Question about heads running into combos...

Hey,
just wondering if its worth it. I kinda wanna get a JCM head and run it into my flextone 3, kind of like an alternative channel. Id get an ab/y switch so i coudl engage it, or bypass it. But woudl this even sound good? just wondering. Stone does somethign similar, not sure if it is a fender head, or something else...any suggestions?
