Hey all,

well ive been looking at amps for hours tonight, everything from marshall, to hiwatt, to orange, and even hughes and kettner has been looked at, but the 59 bassman reissue just seems to stick out. I have never played one, but i image its like a Hot Rod Deville just a little less twangy and has a nice bottom end punch. It doesn't have reverb, but thats what a E-H Holy grail is for. Other than that, what do you guys think of them? also, does it have some pretty nice gain on it, my band plays grungy stuff, so i need some balls (mind you i can use my tubescreamer as a "dirty" channel) mike mccready uses them, mind you i havent heard much of the new leg.

  • The 59 Bassman RI is probably my favorite fender amp :D

You have to play it to understand it, you can sit there with a strat and play that amp at a nice volume ALL day!..it has 4 inputs for many sounds

It doesn't have an "overdrive channel"...you have to crank the amp pretty high to get it to break up nicely (similar to the Deluxe Reverb)...then again, that's what a nice overdrive pedal is used for

  • THe '59 bassman is Fenders greatest amp. Please don't compare any of it to the Hot Rod besides the spelling of "Fender". Great ciruit, all those Marshalls are based off it. Does good with pedals.

Put a OCD in front of it, and call it a day!!!!

I played through one the other day with a few different guitars, MIM Tele, John Mayer Strat and an Epiphone Casino and all were great. I'm really tempted to sell my Blues Junior and use my upcoming holiday bonus to get it. We shall see.

Unfortunately bonus time is two and a half months away! Knowing me, I'll change my mind five times between now and then.

my favorite all around large company mass production amp that I know of.

Since you are shopping. Check out the Fender Vibro King as well, tube reverb similar bottom end only 3 speakers.... I don't really care for the blonde styling, but it sounds awesome.

    Also, See Dr. Z (Z28) 2x10 combo.

and on a budget.... Peavey Delta Blues 2x10 (could use better speakers, tubes), etc but it's a sweet amp, with tremolo.

Vibrolux's and Supers can do the thing but they are a bit brighter.

Freaking pine box lacquered bassman with some kind of Reverb unit maybe a tremolo and the right OD's in front......beautiful.

When you try out the bassman LTD.....plug in a Trussart Rusty Tele if you can and just play some blues riffs......:D Happiness.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

budget isnt a really big deal, my band is currently 3 grand in debt to the local store, but we pay it off every two weeks so its not a big deal. Chances are i would be running two bassman's, and it would cost me around 2800-3000 canadian with tax and everything, i find that much more practical than a single JCM halfstack or something similar. I'd love to have the power to switch between a clean and dirty amp. Im so glad fender didnt skyrocket the price on the bassman, because i think im gonna go for it, im hitting up edmonton next week for a wings game, so ill pop into a few of my favourite shops and try it out. my Fender 57/62 pickups are going in too next weekend so ill have an amazing demo guitar as well.

You ain't around much any more Paco! After my buddy had the 18 watt 2 12 doctor Z at home for a day, I wasn't as impressed. Especially for the money. '59 bassman is awesome, Vibro king is awesome, Todd Mohr from Big Head Todd and the Monsters used one this last tour. A/B a '59 bassman and a JTM 45, and the rest is history!!!!
