Easy Question... Am7 Chord

Hey guys,

I am a beginner on the guitar. I am taking lessons, but tonight was looking to try Bob Dylan's Master of War, mainly because it looks simple for a beginner.

Anyhow, my guitar booklet does't list the hand positioning for the Am7 chord. Can someone fill me in on the difference between the Am chord?

Thanks!

  • i believe it's...

    e- 0
    b- 3
    g- 2
    d- 2
    a- 0
    e- x

    or something like that..

maybe both the B and high E strings are 3's (or just the high e). I dont remember exactly.

    i think.

I'm with you here. I don't really like having my seventh an octave up, so I just drop the second A (in this case, the 2 on the G string) to the seventh in Am, which is G, or 0

    hmm..

maybe me and harrisonmerwin are thinking of a different Amin variation.

    cordfind says x 0 2 2 1 3 is Amajor7.

x02213 should be aminor seventh, since the seventh is G, and the 3 on the high E string is G
    printf("shiver in eternal darkness\n");

    Both are right! :D
There isn't really one way to play any chord, but most chord charts use the most common and easiest ways to finger them.

    e- 0 -- 3 -- 5 -- 5 -- 5
    b- 1 -- 1 -- 5 -- 5 -- 8
    g- 0 -- 2 -- 5 -- 5 -- 5
    d- 2 -- 2 -- 5 -- 5 -- 5
    a- 0 -- 0 -- x -- 7 -- 7
    e- x -- x -- 5 -- 5 -- 5

The first two are open A minor7 chords, the third is a common jazz version, the last two are barred versions and there're many more versions of it, too!

It just depends on the voicing you want. You need A, C, E and G notes, and any way you get them is Am7. THe 2nd version up there, with the G as the high note is the most "in your face" version, and the others are more subtle.

    Ok, get practicing! :D
