Now, it's just a matter of a few days wait for my new 2x12, and I'll be able to report back on the wonders of this mighty pedal. It's built like a tank, so I've got high hopes :)

Well, my good friends at FedEx couldn't manage to deliver my 2x12 cabinet in 2 days from MA, so I have to wait until Monday to check out this pedal.

I fucking hate FedEx...biggest bunch of doorknob humping retards on the planet.

If you don't mind me nosing, how much did the Greedtone run you?

If it sounds pretty good to your ears, it'll be worth checking out.

From what I hear, the Greedtone is a really loud pedal. As in, 9:00 is about amp volume, and much more than that and it really takes off in the decibel range

    The website is http://www.geocities.com/greedtoneseattlewa/Pedal.html

Word on the street is that he's building a new site w/ sound clips.

Sometimes you'll see them pop up the company name 'The Bionic Ear', but really it's only one pedal and the name is 'Greedtone'.

He builds them in limited runs, and they go really fast, so apparently there's usually a waiting list.

I hear it's more of a distortion than an OD. It's got a gain boost toggle, volume and gain knob.
  • really? cuz i hear it's more of an overdrive than a distortion...

    i guess we'll find out tuesday ;)

I've heard both. I've heard 'loud tube screamer' to 'lightly compressed distortion'.

It only adds to the mythical aura of the pedal. :)
  • i wonder what colour mine will be....

They're any color you want them to be, as long as that color is silver :)

Ordinarily I'd agree, since Fed Ex seems to leave my freaking tubes on my doorstep all day rather than put them in the office like I have repeatedly requested right there on the package, but UPS is probably the biggest bunch of doorknob humping retards on the planet, given that they break amps BOLTED to Wooden Crates routinely!!! :) Fed UP is a close second.

Good news on the greedtone, give us a full report.

Not a full report on the Greedtone...yet...but I thought that some of you might enjoy more rig porn. Here's what I will be playing the Greedtone through later tonight.

    Rig.jpg

That's a Wizard Modern Classic 100 through a Swanson 2x12. the Swanson is built to Orange spec's, and is loaded with a pair of Harry Joyce 12's.

The rock will be brought with great fury. :)

Thank you sir. With my custom Delia, I'm pulling tones that would make your head spin.

I have a few questions to run by Greg before I give a full report on the Greedtone, but I can say that the pedal has extraordinary potential. It doesn't mess with your tone too much unless you go to extreme settings. I'm hearing something rattling around inside my box though, and I think that whatever is rattling around might be contributing to a fair amount of hiss...or white noise. Probably a loose component...it happens :)

Once I get it sorted out, I'll report back with what I bet will be glowing reviews.
  • Mine is silver.

he sent a t-shirt that says "Greedtone Mic pres / amps / stompboxes" too

    the pedal is unbelievable.

EXACTLY what i wanted.. which was an overdrivey type distortion that sounded great.

it is more of an overdrive.. but powered up acts a little like a distortion... i've bever played a tubescreamer, but i have played a big muff.. and compared to it, you get really incredible drive but you can hear everything crystal clear..

it's a very "Pearl Jam" pedal to me... way more punk than metal which is great because metal guitar players sound like shit.

and even sounds amazing turned all the way up to ten.

    I LOVE IT

i'll update when i've had it about a week or so,... i expect it to be even more amazing.

anything is crystal clear compared to a big muff.

Other than my Flender that's true ;)

But i just tried to compare them to 2 of the most well-known and loved - big muff and tubescreamer.

You guys are all really bad influences on me. Based on your testimonials, I ordered one up for myself, received it in the office on Friday, but since I was out recovering from night one of Pearl Jam in NJ, I didn't get it home to play with until last night. And holy crap, this thing is awesome.

Once I got some good sounding clean tone on my amp, and got the volume on the pedal to match my amp's output I slowly started cranking the gain knob. At lower gain, with the switch set to "less" it is definitely a nice overdriven sound, even when cranking the gain knob up, but still switched to less.

After putting the gain somewhere around 12 o'clock or higher, I flicked the switch to "more" and was blown away. I find it to be just on the border of overdrive into distortion/fuzz. I was playing with my SG's and just cranking out the chords to Rearviewmirror, and it sounded amazing. Just full of chunky goodness. But all that disappears as you start hitting the individual notes of the riff, or the solo, everything is crystal clear, and just sounds amazing. I definitely have to mess around with it more with my Strat, but I'm sure I'll get a good sounds there with some experimentation.

I'd get into more detail, but I already feel like I'm trying to explain things in terms I still don't quite get. All I know is, I love this pedal and am seriously going to dump off some of my Boss pedals, even the ones I was debating getting Keeley modded. I don't think I'll need them now.
