Huge Moral Problem

  • Ok, so I asked if I could buy it, he said no, I was kinda pissed off about it, until my guitar teacher told me it was a fake anyway. So no problem I guess.

Thats not the end of it though, I wanna restore an electric guitar, or at least make a custom one, it'd be a pretty cool project. How do I go about it?

    kinda funny that someone who thinks these other kids don't know jack shit about this guitar and thus he should take it;

    1) can't tell it's a copy anyway
    2) doesn't know how to fix a missing screw (hint: a new screw)

    Haha... I agree.

  • good god you have to be kidding right? basing your actions on whether eddie vedder would approve or not is dumb.
i always thought that question was, 'what would jesus do?' not what would eddie think. ;)
i can't understand the dilemma here. if it's not yours you have no right to take it.
What's wrong with using mentors to guide you in life ?
Anyway, if you look at teh fan montage from "The Touring Band", you will see that Eddie is Jesus.
I agree that it is a no brainer not to steal stuff, i was just trying to get the kid to work it out for himself.

i have no doubt that there are people who deify eddie vedder. perhaps even on this site.
and i didn't say there was anything wrong with using mentors as guides. but to me rock stars are not mentors. they are rock stars. they entertain us. they get us high and that should be it. maybe being the same age as the band provides me with a different outlook than some fans. i don't know. morality should come from within you, not from someone telling you or you wondering what eddie would say or think.

I think appreciation is the word then, I can appreciate it, while other kids just think "Crock of shit" and give it a few kicks.

As for the fake thing, I have no idea how to tell fakes anyway.

Yeah well Iam also the same age as the band, and you find mentorship in this life wherever you find it.
I think Ed would be horrified to think that no-one gave a shit about his opinions, I mean the guy puts so much energy into his causes.
AS to the EDDIE is JESUS thing, don't you think that the sight of a scruffy bloke with a b eard in front of thousands of people holding their hnands up in supplication brings to mind an image of Jesus, this from an atheist of course, an a country that takes religion a whole lot less seriously than USA.

whoa there, i never said eddie was jesus.

and you know if eddie is saying what he's saying just for reaction then he's saying it for the wrong reasons. and i doubt he gives a shit whether anyone agrees with him or not. the belief he has in his causes is his own. and that is as it should be.

hey double snap, i too am an atheist and live in a country that way more secular than the US.

No I think it was me that said that Eddie looks like Jesus !
You know, I think we are on the same wavelength. Athiests, of course, look to themselves and other people for morality, not to religion.
To go back to the original moral dilemma on this thread, I was using Ed as an example of people working out right and wrong for themselves.
I just think the images on teh montage I was referring to are interesting, without really reading too much into it, other than scruffy blokes in beards seem to wield a lot of influence.
I think it is a bit narrow and dismissive to say that rock stars are good for nothing other than vicarious entertainment though. I would say that Ed cares passionately that people pay attention to his youth/charity/global warming interests, not for the "attention", but more to get people caring about that stuff.
    Rock on dude !!

    KArl Marx

seems a scruffy haircut and a beard are essential items for messianic types, along with the delusions of grandeur etc

  • Yeah , well he did have a vision of a perfect woirld and thought he had the answer to that, but I think we can all agree (except for Fidel of course) that socialism is a failed experiment. NOt really delusions in that they were reasoned thoughts with a basis in reality though, so doesn't really qualify. I was just throwing around other prominent figures with scruffy hair and beards though, since you brought up Mr MAnson.
Hey, if we are going to have a D&M, what I really think about Jesus, is that he was a classic schizophrenia sufferer in a time when such things were not understood, let alone treated, and usually invoked either adulation or accusations of possession. So Eddie does not really qualify for Jesus status, not being schizophrenic that I know of.
Great version of YLB over the montages though.

i believe that jesus was a socialist.

and i think we really need to wait until capitalism collapses in a giant flaming heap before we see socialism given any chance. i don't see the two coexisting.

  • Karl Marx was smart, and unfortunately his entire idea of Communism was practiced incorrectly, and was an insult to his genious. He would have been disgusted by Russia/Ussr, and how they took his "knowledge" and created such a bad thing. One good thing is that he did die before his dream crumbled in the wrong hands. I would actually like to see a communist state as karl marx had wished

ps: Im buying Mackie SRM 450's for monitors/small stage front of house

Cate, don't you think that 50yr of cummunism in Russia, China ands Cuba was a fair trial ?
As to the wrong hands, I surely agree that the USSR was run by psychopaths, kind of like giving teh worst criminals control of govt.
Humans are greedy littel sucker by nature, adn socialism just makes everyone poor.

    no i do not.
i don't think forced revolution is the way to attain a socialist state.
and in all honesty, cuba never had a chance. not with the 'evil empire' to the north breathing down their neck.
