I first tried another tuning when i wanted to play daughter which is open G
The prettiest tuning I've played is the one used in the Rain Song DGCGCD
My favourite though is DADGAD not sure what its called though. Some great Led Zeppelin Songs and a bit of Xavier Rudd.
What else is good?

Open D on a Tele, bridge pickup, chrome slide, Fender Twin Reverb (sf) cranked to about 7.

Other than that, I play standard or drop-step (DGCFAD).
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
  • Try DADEAD, CGDGAD, DADABD and CFCCGD, and my current favourite for songwriting, CGCGCE.

I use 7 or 8 different tunings, but since I don't have 7 or 8 different guitars, I usually try to reqork my music for standard tuning or even half step down when playing live...sometimes it works...most times it doesn't.

Some of my Favorites are CGCGGE (Soundgarden tuning), DADGAE, DGDGBC, plain old Open G. I have used quite a few more but I don't feel like typing anymore.
