Parametric Equalisation

hey, im not sure if this is the best place to ask but i'll do it anyway.
For part of a course I am studying I have decided to investigate and create a parametric equaliser that can be used with my guitar. It is basically like a guitar effects pedal. It affects the amplitude, frequency and bandwidth of a signal giving a different output like using general guitar effect pedals such as chorus, phaser and wah wah pedals.
If anyone has ever done anything like this before or created an effect pedal, any kind of help or advice as to how they are designed or work would be greatly appreciated.
As i said, i am not sure if this is the best place but i thought i would ask some musicians!
