the deville all the way. that marshall and sounds like ass. but you'll want some pedals with the deville cause its distortion aint that great

The Deville in a landslide. But throw the footswitch away and forget that it has a drive channel at all.

The Deville is actually worth upgrading, the quality of the Marshall MG's is very sketchy. I've seen several where the input jack was jerked from someone tripping over the cable or what have you and the actual plate metal from the face pulled out. If they are that cheap on the outside, imagine what you can't see.

Just swapping the speakers and tubes in the Deville can make a huge difference in the tone.

That's a good platform to work with. That Amp+ an nice OD/Dist/Fuzz whatever your flavor. excellent.

I'd get the deville and send the Boss distortion too robert keeley or analog mike to have it modded for clarity and volume. I think you'll be pleased.

check out http://www.thdamps.com and look at the yellow jackets, it's an easy non permanent way to get a more british sound out of your amp. essentially they convert your 6L6 slots to EL-84's. If you then swap the speakers to webers or vintage 30's you have a very formidable amp.

one suggestion, before you buy the 2x12, check out the 1x12 deluxe and the 4x10 deville also look at the 22 watt 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue.

the latter stuff could be a lot later, but I know literally tons of working musicians that use the HR deville and the Boss DS-1 distortion combination, having Mike or Robert or whoever mod it for you just gives you more flexibility and more clarity and a lot more volume boost, which is how you get that sweet crunchy in between flavor out of fenders

I agree with you, tube swap, rebias and a new speaker set and you'll be surprised.

Anyone besides me discover that the Blues DeVille works much better with a tubescreamer than the Hot Rod DeVille?

I'd love to try a pair of Black Shadows in a 2x12" DeVille...

The cost difference is pretty high. The '59 RI is a great amp, I'd love to have one, but it's probably out of his price range. You can find them used on eBay for a better price...
