a couple months ago i began to look at recorders (broad, i know) and i narrowed it down to just 2: Tascam Dp-01fx (hard disc recorder) or Tascam portastudio 214 (multitrack cassete). For about a month i was all happy thinking i wanted the cassete recorder, 4 tracks at once, i can make tapes (which are cool), also i like the idea of having physical matter..id much rather have a tape over a digital file. I also don't like my music to be edited much at all, so i was thinking if digital is just overkill.

So tonight i started looking at the DP-01fx again and got to thinking. Maybe this is the new age of recording and anyone still on tape is insane. This seems like a cool unit, far more editing possibilites than the tape recorder. But it can only record one track at a time (i could use my mixing board, but the more components the worse).
I will be recording myself (guitar and vocals) and my whole band, when i record my band i will use my mixing board.

- also i was wondering: what are some higher end tape multitracks that will sound a little better than the cheaper tascam (i dont mind the small hiss)

- maybe i should buy both...and return the one i dont like

Sorry for the long post...i just kinda made a similar mistake already and dont want to again

Thanks!!!

My band record with a 2track recorder by tascam. It works well and we have had some excellent results. We are in the process of recording but we hope to have them on the web soon
