having just acquired my new acoustic i was looking to concentrate on maybe 20 or so acoustic belters... the ones everybody knows and can sing along to at parties...

doesnt need to be PJ... actually, i'm looking for classic acoustic songs from everyone BUT pj as i already know what ones i will practice of theirs.

any ideas most welcomed :)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Talking of The Band, learn The Weight.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
  • Heres what I usually play at campfires...

Dock Of the bay (Otis Redding)
    Last Kiss (PJ Cover)
    Horse With No Name (America)
    Lucky Man (ELP)
    Sweet Home Alabama (Lynard Skynnard)
Surfin' USA (Beach Boys) -This is a great one for the beach
Love Will Keep Us Alive (The Eagles)
    Name (Goo Goo Dolls)
Alive (Pearl Jam)- This is a good one if you've had a little bit to drink...
    Drive (Incubus)
    Betterman (Pearl Jam)

Of course there's Home on the Range, Kum Bai Ya, and the usuals. Also, keep in mind that I'm 20 so I have a lot more recent stuff that my friends and I grew up on. I dunno if this answers your post, though.

I can play the acoustic intro to taht, but hten it gets weird during the verses. The timing is hard, and I haven't worked it out yet. Haven't looked at it for a while though, and I'm a better player than last tiem I looked. Thanx for teh push to looka t aht again.

Yeh I can play the intro too. You're right about the verses being tricky to play. That's where I'm stuck. I learned the intro awhile ago and haven't looked at the song lately. I'll have to look at finishing it soon.

    Some classics already!!!!
how about 'I walk the line'- Johnny Cash
  • AusticmanAusticman Posts: 1,324
    Parting Ways
    Creep
    Somebody's Crying
    Wicked Game
I can't go the library anymore, everyone STINKS!!
  • Gotta add some more:

    Yellow Ledbetter
Little GTO (oh, this is a great one)
    You Don't Know-JJ Jackson
    Grand Rapids '04, Detroit '06
JEFF HARDY AND JEFF AMENT USED TO LOOK THE SAME
"Pearl Jam always eases my mind and fires me up at the same time.”-Jeff Hardy
  • Some David Bowie:

Space Oddity - is a cool acoustic song and you can get everyone to countdown “ten to one- Liftoff” starting at the 2nd verse if no one knows the words. Easy song , just get the B#maj 7th - Am - G -F chords at "Planet Earth is blue".

Life on Mars - may be a little harder to play and sing, but everyone will yell IS THERE LIFE ON MAAAAARS.

Hey Jude - always gets everyone singing DAA DAA DAA DADADA DAA at the end and you can milk that if for like 10 minutes of drunken out of tune singing by everyone.

Wild Thing,,,,, you make my heart sing. And if you’re really close to the campfire you can do the official Jimi Hendrix Monterey Pop ending and burn that guitar.
Or maybe someone else will be throwing it in for you! ;)

Louie Louie - is a great party song.

    La Bamba

If you remember the song “Wipe Out”. Fun riff to play and you get everyone to bang out that drum beat on whatever they’re near. Great fun.

    Kinks - Lola
Rod Stewart - “Do you think I’m sexy” is pretty funny.

Talking Heads - Burning Down the House. At least people join in with the burning down the house part. Easy to play.
I just played “Once in a Lifetime” the other night. Everyone likes to yell “Same as it ever was, Same as it ever was”

Those are pretty easy. If you want to try some out of the box stuff, I don't know what your picking level is but: -

Sail to the Moon - Radiohead
Try fingerpicking Like Spinning Plates. Everyone seems to like that one but it's hard to play.

Also - Roxanne by the Police

Haha,,, why do I think of these now but I never remember them at a party! :D
