its not picking but it shows the D string as being...errr.what??? i dont know
it cant be open as normally its a 0 for an open string... its not muted either as thats an x... i'm lost!!
in the past i have normally just put my fingers on those 2 frets/strings and it sounds ok, but i wonder if its right!

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

i'd play it by fretting the A string with my index finger, muting the D string with that finger as well and then fretting the G string with my ring or pinky and that finger tends to mute the B and high E as well.
assuming it's supposed to be strummed hard which i'd imagine it is given that it's that octave thing.0 -
Mute it with the index finger on the A-string. It does make a huge differnece in sound: instead of a full powerchord, you have this sort of thicker, pounding sound. Listen to the outro of Light Years. The chunky sounding octave run at the end.
(at least that's what I think it's about, anyway)0 -
cheers folks...like a too talkative wife it appears muting with the finger is the answer

this example was from the tab of Dont Gimme No Lip. I will look up Light Years as well

Octaves are great. Great things to learn to play, too. They'll give you some depth, especially if you're sitting playing solo.
You can either pick all three strings, damping the center one with your index finger, like exhausted says,
individually pick the two strings, like seanw1010
or my favorite,
Play across all three strings with your thumb, damping the middle string, Wes Montgomery style. Stevie Ray, Jimi and Buddy Guy learned a lot from him!
