Basic Chord question

I'm very new to playing, so here it goes.
When I try to play a chord, I'm getting a lot of feedback. I adjust my vol. to try to avoid the feedback, but no matter what I mess with, I still get feed back. I can play single notes just fine and they sound great, but more than two, and it sounds like shit. I have Fender 3250 reg. strings on my Fender HSS strat.
Any help would be great

What's your amp/pedal setup? For your amp, I would suggest turning the volume down, turn the gain down, and don't face the speakers on your amp/cab. For effects pedals, try turning down the level and/or gain.0

electric guitar is a different instrument.
you can play full cords on clean, but on distortion, most peeps tend to play chord fragments and mute everything you are not playing.
muting is at least half of playing electricMusic is not a competetion.0 -
I've tried it with a headphones with no pedals at all, gain turned low and the vol. on the amp and guitar at a reasonable setting.BRING BACK THE WHALE0
