How do I tell what kind of pickups I have?

I'm a newbie, sorry. I know they can be either single-coil or humbuckers.

There are four pickups on my guitar I think, arranged like this:

[pickup][pickup] [pickup][pickup]

I'm pretty sure they are single coil. It's an Ibanez GAX 50 or 60. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, if the pickups are arranged in pairs, with each pair flush against the other, you have two humbuckers that are open-coil (no chrome covers). That's what the covered humbuckers look like underneath the covers, too.

    EDIT: Does this sound familiar?

Indeed that is my guitar, the Ibanez GAX 50, thanks.

I have been thinking of swapping the pickups for some nicer ones, any suggestions? I almost certainly want some humbuckers. Or would it be better just to get an entirely new guitar? Or swap the amp instead? (I have a 15 watt practice amp)

    Thanks in advance, again.
