A Part in Live At the Garden

In the PJ DVD - Live At the Garden, Eddie Vedder uses something to play his guitar. Its a small black object that he kinda uses as a pick. You can see him use it when they play Wishlist. In the middle of the song the band goes off in their own thing and just starts playing some weird but cool stuff. Eddie starts playing this part using this black object. It sounds pretty cool but I don't know what it is. If you know, please tell me. Thank You.
