DW v. Pacific drums... what should I do?

If I am a good drummer, but not a seasoned professional... is it worth spending more just to get the DW name? Or is it okay to go with a decent maple set from Pacific, which is similar but cheaper?
DW is so goddamned expensive for someone like me.

I just did a gig with a band called Banyan, and their drummer is Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros. He is a DW endorser and user, but with this band he was using a Pacific kit (with a nice DW snare). From what I know, Pacific is to DW what Epiphone is to Gibson: a bit cheaper, made overseas, but the same design and same idea.
There definitely is a jump up in quality to a DW kit. There are only a few drum manufacturers who can match DW: Pork Pie, Orange County Percussion, and Ayotte, and DW ends up being a bit cheaper than those three. But like Stereosex said, if you get a DW, you'll never need another kit in your lifetime. So it depends: do you want a step up in quality that will get you through the next five years, or do you want one that will be with you for life?
it depends. whats the point of getting a DW if you dont play shows or record. If you just practice i would get the pacific. Plus, no one really can tell the sound difference when you are playing a show anyway
