Hi...Ive been playin for about 7.5 years and I am now just coming into my own as a guitarist...solos are starting to become easy for me to play and my style is influence by Page, Slash, McCready and Vaughn. But here is the issue...recently my fret ring finger tip is giving me this annoying pain when I play. It feels like their is either something in my finger or that its the actual bone that is being irritated. Its not making me cry or anything but to me this finger is my money shot...with all the bends and hammer ons I use in using pentatonics...I m really worried.
If anyone has any experience with something like this please feel free to give me some advice....anything.
Thanks

I have the same problem sometimes, the only thing I know that works is resting it for a while.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I've had my whole hand tense up but never an individual finger. The only thing I can suggest are those 2 chinese (i think) balls that you roll around in your hand and you try to make them not touch each other. You can also get one of those "grip masters" in helping develop your finger strength. What I like to do is touch my pinky finger to my thumb a number of times and that helps to relax my hand.

The obvious answer is....SEE A DOCTOR....maybe a specialist? It could be more than just a muscular thing. For bends I would suggest using your middle finger along with your ring finger to help bend the note...or use your pinky with your ring finger...that kind of stuff. Or maybe Paco's right and you just need to rest it.....see a doctor!

  • thanks...but its not a muscle for strength issue....when I fret a note ...it hurts like the tip of the finger..like something is in it ie glass..or its the bone of the tip of the finger

i had something similar happen to me too. for a couple weeks it felt like i had a nasty sliver in the tip of my middle finger. i couldn't find anything in there so i just put the guitar down for a while. picked it up a week or so later and it felt fine. not sure what the deal was.
if it really hurts, i'd get it checked out.
