Advice on learning to play guitar

I am a complete novice and want to learn to play the guitar I have an acoustic Yamaha Nippon Gakki. Is this guitar any good? Should I just start learning cords and go from there? I know a lot of poeple are self taught, but maybe some beginer lessons to get a jump start? Any suggetions and or advice would be great.

    yeah... listen to that first guy driftin'....
    I've been playing for Ten Years and I still printed out his post for some education guidlines....

    I've been Tabbing out PJ for Ten years.... and now I'm just starting to get excited about learning the notes and scales and understanding theory...
